Queen was one of the first rock bands I became a fan of (not too long ano...late 90s). And soon after I started listening to other bands too. The band that really attracted me at this point was GnR, and Axl's vocals had a lot to do with it. But soon I realised, like someone already said, Axl's voice is tailor made for certain type of songs and sucks if he is singing some other type of song. I have only seen the tribute concert on DVD, and I thought his Queen + section was OK to bad. But the GnR sections were awsome.
I did watch a concert of GnR where he covers Sail Away Sweet Sister and I was so delighted because it was totally unexpected. I rememebr I posted about it on this forum at the time too. And I'd really like to see that footage where he talks about Freddie/Queen in Budapest.
And about those racist/homophobic lyrics posted above....I am shocked. If he actually wrote those, then I give him the finger.

I wouldn't say Axl is a 'good' singer but he has some much venom and rasp in his voice which makes it good in a totally different way to Freddie Mercury. As others have said he was stunning at what he did. He couldn't do what Freddie did, but to be fair I doubt Freddie could do much of what Axl does, though I bet he'd do a killer November Rain!
