Of course they want to release the only three gigs filmed in proper film. Is a great notice after all, Montreal is fantastic, a memento of the Raw power of Queen. Rainbow is a dream for every fan, and Budapest is simply, one of their best gig ever, and the better production in Queen history, maybe my favourite too, much better than Wembley. With this three gigs released in HD i will be happy. They only question is: Why they didn't film more gigs? (I know, that was a different era, but...)

My congratulations to Queen Productions!!!!

I think that there's a reasonable explanation for this lack of proper
video recordings, actually the only way you could release the concerts
on those days is as a movie to the teathers rather than today, that you
can release it on dvd or in the eighties, when VHS was around.

I don't know much about this but probably it was very expensive to
record a gig (and they used to record more than one night) in 35 mm at
the time and spent a lot of money to record something that will not be
released at all wasn't interesting to the band at that point.

At least, they recorded other concerts in standard quality, bands like
Pink Floyd didn't even have SD concerts recorded from their classic
line-up.

Budapest which would look amazing on blu ray. It really is one of their best. 3D is just trendy and might be laughable in the near future. A cleaned up picture directly from film, while making sure the HD sound has both  good stereo and surround mixes is best. I know Brian likes to make sure there is both audio formats. Montreal looks and sounds amazing and so would Budapest. Judging by the sped up sound of the Budapest to fit it into the 90 minute max VHS format will be redone. I know the speed up drives lots of us crazy.

I haven't watched Budapest for YEARS. I might have a look tonight. I love love love the candid stuff around the city. A great, friendly concert film.

Great news! Well, apart from the 3D part: it's a bit pointless and gimmicky.

It's only in hindsight that we can wish.  Back then most people just didn't see the value in filming things for posterity.  Things were usually filmed for promotional purposes or broadcast.  The fact that things like Rainbow and Hyde Park exist is pretty incredible.  Only in the last 20 years have people realized how fortunate the world was to have things like The Beatles, The Who, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Queen.  And they all wish more shows were filmed.

3D or not, this is fantastic news.  Thank you QP and Universal Records !  This simple change in bureaucracy has made 2011 an incredible year for Queen fans.

So they're gonna piss about with 3D, but they won't release anything on Bluray because they don't think the format will take off? Is Brian a bit of a dick or what????

As for the rainbow concert, apparantly it was shot on PAL 2" video tape, so I hope they leave it alone at that.
Bloody hate filmised concerts - they look crap.
Be aware everyone, that it will undoubtedly STILL be an edit of the two nights, though I'm happy to be proved wrong...

Finally. Where's the Hammy 75 DVD that was promised two years ago?

Ok, I will bite. Unless there were 2 cameras in very close proximity to each other there will be NO 3d. Its like sayin Q+PR is just like real Queen ie... a load of shit.

But.. there are idiots who will convince themselves it is real. Good luck to you all. If you are happy then crack on :-)

It's obviously a faked effect, but they've tried it successfully with the Bo Rhap video (where have you been????) and an awful lot of cinema films that are touted as 3D are shot 2D and processed into a 3D effect.
Obviously you know even less about 3D than I do, so stop being a cocky sod.

Are you sure?  I've heard it was properly filmed, from numerous sources, including Brian's soapbox.

He said the Rainbow, Montreal and Budapest shows were the only shows they properly filmed - just those 5.

And I wouldn't doubt it - the Rainbow film was shown in the cinemas throughout the 70s.
