I didn't take these remarks as homophobic. I just thought he didn't like the music that was being played in the gay clubs, Queen were more of a rock band, and he probably felt it was just a side step too far.
No, not homophobic. I really don't think Roger has any problem with sexuality.

songs like Back Chat, Dancer, and Staying Power mean more to me then bland inputs like Put Out The Fire, or Action This Day.

I agree (+Cool Cat).

Let's turn it around - it's extremely bigoted to just assume that the vast majority of homosexual people like dance/club music.

- and let's not forget thomas, that there are plenty of heterosexual people who love house/dance/club music.
That's one of the great things about music - it isn't restricted to sexual orientation, religion, nationality, although of course there is nationalistic music, religious music, and even some 'gay' music, and of course, lots of straight music (man singing that he loves a girl, etc, it's all straight, but so what?)

...and gay people singing She instead of He, like Freddie did.

Sure, now. But in the early 80s?
In a time when the overwhelming majority of society spurned gays in every way imaginable, the clubs were a place of solace and comfort. Of course there is no way of empirically measuring this, but I'd be willing to bet that the musical tastes of gay guys was way more homogenized then than it is now.

Just because he liked Freddie doesnt mean he must embrace the gay scene..Me, I love Freddie and the gay scene I dont care as long as u dont do u dirty things in front of me
Ugh. A comment like this is even worse than the OP
Yup. It's about step 5 of 10 of the "ditching homophobia" process that people tend to go through.

Just because someone is not into it doesn't mean they are against it. It's like, "If they're not with us, then they are against us" type of reaction. Geesh. People need to chill. Out of all the bandmates, Roger was the one who is always "game" in Freddie's endeavors even when he was doing his solos. His bandmates were progressive thinkers given the time that they grew up in.

are you troubled and seeking answers?

I doubt it. He wouldn't have been so close to Freddie and played with him for years if he hated gay people. They all seemed pretty accepting of his sexuality

This whole thread is fucking stupid.
