Roger Taylor was so right. The direction Queen took in this period was terrible.
Basically blind em and deaf em in the first 10 minutes, and while they are recovering from that put in the less good songs

The comment - if you listen to it carefully - is about Paul Prenter (and a mention of him thinking Brian's guitar sound old fashioned) - and the influence he had on Freddie. And, as Roger says "hence on the band".

I don't find it at all offensive. The "gay club" comment isn't actually anti gay. It's a musical comment. But then I'm straight so what do I know about things being offensive to the gay community. I do know that wasn't Roger's intent.

OK, I've been trolled... :-)

He said that Paul Prenter tried to move Freddie (and the band) towards gay club music and he did not like that. Really homophobic of Roger that he wanted to play Rock music and not club music ;-)
I do not want any google ads here.

Yes - Saying he wasn't keen on the music generally played in gay clubs, and would rather than play a different sort of music is SO homophobic isn't it?

Actually I think Freddie had enough of a "musical compass" not to be too influenced by Paul Prenter. Unless you count Hot Space as a counterexample. :-)

Personally I don't as I think at least 2 (and possibly all 4) of them were up for it (Hot Space, I mean).

In fact I think Roger overstates his aversion to Hot Space - with the benefit of 30 years of hindsight.
