Back Chat -- this seems like a classic Queen track gone horribly wrong.
Hahaha, I never thought about it but you have a good point. It's like John said "Ok, you morons, I've had enough of your shit. Now that Dust is our biggest seller you'll let me do things MY WAY" and BAM!

If it wasn't for Brian's awesome "angry" solo it would be a dud.

I think the lyrics on Dancer and Back Chat are pretty mundance, yet Freddie's vocal turns them into something special. Its funny, I used to hate the first three tracks, now they're my favourites on the album. Body Language is pretty clever I guess, but its a bit overdone I think with the way too many oohs and aahs. Sort of an attempt to create aural porn....lol.

"TRUE QUEEN FANS IN OTHER WORDS, ACCEPTED EVERYTHING THEY DID"As I see it, people who make remarks like this are only one step away from joining a cult.
No, its not cult like, it is just accepting the music they made.
Some songs obviously you will like more than others, but to hate a whole album is just silly.
Except for the later ones that is, i dislike them not because of the music but because of Freddie's death.

that ^^^ argument doesn't work
if it's possible to like every trak on an album, it's also equally possible to hate EVERY track on another queen album

Actually I rather like Action This Day and Calling All Girls, especially the latter. I found Body Language brave but boring.

We're all so different yet still like the same band.

Calling All Girls is close to my least favourite song in the whole Queen catalogue. Obviously I just don't get it. Action This Day is not so bad in my book. Still not anywhere near a favourite of mine though.

@Heavenite Thanks for helping me make my point: Something for everyone on every album. But not necessarily the same thing.

No worries Martin. My favourites on Hot Space are Staying Power, Dancer and Back Chat (ie the first three tracks). What's your opinion on those? I am thinking that they probably aren't YOUR thing....lol.

The most controversial album in Queen's recording History, "Hot Space" was a real departure for Queen. A disco funk rock fusion, mixed with a latin ballad, Hot Space, i have come to my musical conclusion, is one Queen's best ever albums, if only for it's total uniqueness. Hot Space never ever bore, is never repetitive, and truly was and is groundbreaking.
So on balance, far from it being Queen's weakest moment, it exemplifies Queen's greatest secret ingredient , that being musical diversity and inventiveness that prodcuced so many musical suprises in every style of music they took on board amidst their short lived recording career.
i didn't say i hated EVERY track on any album. i said if it's possible to love every track on one album then it's equally possible to hate every track on another. which it is.

as regards qzloadsanumbers...i want to hear what he has to say...but only from a purely comedic point of view

Wow! I have worshipped Queen 2, as did a bunch of my friends. But hey, good luck to him....lol. I definitely approve of his choice of group.

One of the best things I can say about Hot Space is the band had balls on that album! I much prefer The Works, but I thought it was a safe choice and was also Queen by numbers to a certain extent.

It took me a helluva long time, but the songs I like on Hot Space, I really love they days. So the album also taught me something musically (in terms of funk), something I wasn't really willing to learn at the time. The Works did too, but to nowhere near the same extent.

@Heavenite I like Dancer and Backchat but found Staying Power insipid on the album. Live, though (and I was at MK in 1982) Staying Power was fab.

I still think the whole "hot space" idea was a good one but they didn't do it as well as they could've.
