someonewholikesadam, exactly HOW MANY gigs did you attend this year?
because if the answer was TWO or more, then in all honestly Queen+AL could not be the best gig you attended

i think there's a new generation of queen fans who'll latch onto any facsimile of Freddie - no matter how pale
...primarily because there is nothing else for them

i pity you...and your ilk...you didn't see the real thing, and NOTHING can ever fix that for you...to the point that a serious exaggeration and over-compensation takes hold, until you can no longer see the truth...."he's NOT the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!"

GF,

What is so embarrassing about being passionate for an artist and his talents? I think passion is the best indicator of a fan's love for the artist. If we vote for the "Best Live Gig," it's because we think it's the best live gig. There are plenty of polls that allow you to vote only once. The ones that allow multiple votes are designed that way for a reason. Do you think AL's fans are the only ones who vote multiple times in those polls? Wake up and smell the logic, GF. And if FM were still alive, I bet you'd be sitting at home in your jammies pressing that vote button multiple times for him too. Happy New Year!
So I guess the answer then is 'no'. You can't appreciate how extraordinary, excessive and frankly absurd the organized culture of mass voting is in that fan community. While it genuinely seems like a fun and super supportive network with a lot of joy within, any belief that, like, The Killers have an army of jammie wearing keyboard queens hammering on polls and request lines 24/7 and buying 35 copies of the same thing as per their club manifesto is frankly delusional. It returns you to a "Paul Rodgers is a Freddie Mercury sound alike" level of dilettante naivety, which seems unnecessary.

I said I preferred Marc Martel on a Youtube video.

Some Lambert fan responded and called me a homophobe.

*shrug* I guess polite musical discussions just aren't a thing with that sort. Not referring to the threads on QZ, as such - it's just the most recent Lambert anecdote I have to offer.

That, and I got a kick out of what he said about Les Miserables, because it's an eerie mirror of how I felt about his Queen guesting.

Ha. I had the *exact* same thought. I was trying to find the word. It wasn't quite irony. An 'eerie mirror' works better.

Yes, the answer is no. The vast majority of Adam's fans don't vote to the extremes as you seem to indicate. I myself am guilty, if I am bored, of voting a few more times than once in a fan poll. Yes, there are fans, especially on the fan site you visited, that organize voting. But it is NOT to the extent that you think it is. Adam has a LOT of fans and we will vote in the polls. Thus, the reason for his winning a lot of these things.

As for the "homophobe" comment, Zebonka, that was made by a zealot no doubt and doesn't represent the conduct of most of Adam's fans. That said, however, that is mild compared to what Queen fans have said about Adam and his fans!

Yes, Virginia, it is to the extent that I think it is. Err, that overwhelming evidence on multiple fronts clearly indicate that it is. Sorry. And that 'fansite I visited' is Lambert's official website! If you want to be proud that a passionate army of fans continues to be committed to promoting Adam in this way after more than three years, be proud of that. If you want to represent any of these number ones as likely to be reflective of some kind of actual measure of real success emerging from a level playing field of normal voting patterns, that's an honesty problem or a reality problem.

As an aside for anybody who might be curious, this was the final placement:

1. Queen + Lambert
2. The Killers
3. Muse
4. Animal Collective
5. Foo Fighters

"would never a Queen fan do the same thing"

More than once, I've hopped onto these polls and cast a random vote for a band that isn't Queen. Mainly because I fuckin' hate poll threads.

True enough! Because then you wouldn't have the obsessed fanbase nuttier than 183 people who split a gut at Greg Brooks' jokes who never even saw the show skipping their grand daughter's dance recital or something to vote 47,000 times.

I guarantee you the fan sites are going to be overfloweth with evidence of poll manipulation on this. If I had more time I'd dig up the threads I know are there because they're usually good for a small giggle and a head shake at the eternal strangeness of human nature.

Those threads were started by Queen fans no?

If it's me I would love to see them do a 2013 tour together ;)
Hopefully in Europe, somewhere nearby The Netherlands, if so I am in I think :)

"Those threads were started by Queen fans no? "

There's an appreciable difference between 'here is a poll, vote for our guy!' and 'I am going to go to insane lengths to falsify the outcome of this poll'.

Not that either (simplified) statement is wholly indicative of the threads that you and GF are linking to, but I think that's basically what this comes down to. What you've essentially done is look up a bunch of poll threads that bear little relation in nature to the Lambert stuff that GF was talking about. If you wanted to say 'Queen fans are just as bad' you'd be a bit more specific and start trawling for posts that actually say 'hey, let's spam this poll so that Freddie wins'. I'm not even sure if those exist or not, but my point is that you'd be better serving your message if you went to the trouble of pointing them out.

I maintain that polls are retarded, of course, and I hate pretty much any thread that brings one up. They're meaningless. Imagine if there'd been a poll the day before Live Aid, and Duran Duran had come ahead of Queen for some reason - maybe because Duran Duran's fans had more motivation or some such.

Wouldn't have made a difference on gig day.
