If they put out a Tokyo 79 DVD in the shops, it would run the risk of creating the idea that Queen sucked live in the 70s. Mercury was at his absolute worst in April 79. The heavy touring left him with a fraction of his voice.
I have mixed feelings about them patching in vocal bits from Paris 79 or whatever other shows. But if they released a 1979 boxed set with Tokyo, Paris and Hammersmith footage, it would be interesting as a comparison.
I completely agree.
There's no way they can patch up that show to make Freddie sound good... He was so weak that night. I'd like to see it in a (big^:-) box as comparison but not as a stand-alone release.
Even now there are average music fans saying FM couldn't deliver the songs live. I would not want them to give those people proof of what they claim... They should search for the best stuff, not the worst!

The best thing we can hope for re: the 70's stuff is a Queen version of this ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Alive_1974-1996 and 1 or 2 complete gigs. But I always hope to be proven wrong :-)

We can only speculate endlessly that will be and how we would like it. But QPL are unpredictable and changeable in their plans, and we can only wait.

It seems that the full show was videotaped.
They have 2 Tokyo 79 shows , they even have all the seperate camera angles !
The first night could be recored as a tester though. During the last convention they showed footage from both Tokyo shows, EC and Paris 79 ! The Tolyo looks excellent!
But for all you disbelievers let me ask you this Question :
Which show is decent enough to be released as a standalone DVD ?
Let's sum it up :
Hammy 75 : to short for a standalone only 50 minutes
Earls Court : good quality but 2 camera angles only
Hammy 79 : video quality , and quite poor. is it complete in the vaults. I am
Quite sure they have the multitracks
South america 81 - only one which could be good enough is the Buenos Aires.
Rio 85 - poor filming ... Could ve released , FM with the Xmas pudding on his belly
Houston 77 - hmmm video quality - and I don't think they have the full audio multi's... Not sure though. Could be possible release thiugh I doubt it.
Hyde Park 76 - No way , legandary gig though. But poor video recording.
Tokyo 85 - let's hope the complete recording is still out there. And not only the edit like the tokyo 82 survived! Still think they would prefer Rio if this one isn't complete if it comes to a workstour release. Though high quality filming on this one (tokyo)!
Paris 79 - poor video quality. This was shown by GB on the last convention the Tokyo looked 100 times better.
So if it is not tokyo 79 we will get , then what would be your gues for the next release ?

Nooo, it's at least three - centre, piano, stage left.

Rhys Thomas said they're seriously considering it, which means they must have the multi-track audio.

The recent documentary clips looked and sounded brilliant.

Yeah.. I know a few people who think Freddie was crap live, going mainly off his performance at Wembley, and probably the fact that it sounds much thinner than it did on the record, which is inevitable when the record has massive overdubs..

Quite poor? all i have seen (officialy of course) from Hamm 79 has excellent quality, even that ultra compressed 2011 videos have good quality.
Hamm 79 was shown at any convention in these last years??

Well tokyo 79 is one of the few things left which is of high quality , and beautifully filmed. Qpl doing a lot if effort now scanning and restoring this gem. Though FM his voice wasn't at is best most of the european shows were recorded, so plenty material to patch and make it shine again as it was FM his best show !
last time i checked Tokyo was NOT in europe. so they can't sell any such "frankenstein's monster" as Tokyo 1979, can then?
