RTWW; great song - would've been excellent live

This topic made me think; didn't Queen work better under pressure or with a deadline
E.g ANATO, the bounce-back on The Works (maybe a bit cliched in context)...

Given there WAS no Freddie solo album I'm so very glad Delilah ended up on Innuendo. I like RTWW but thought it could've developed more. But I'm always thinking things could do with developing more without a clue as to how. :-)

Good thread - made me really think about the album as I haven't listened to if for a while. I love RTWW, but find AGP a bit cheap, maybe overlong?

Not sure what I'd dump off the album though. Probably Headlong?

Very good question. ANATO was in effect a survival album, they were making no money, struggling artists etcetera, and they're creative juices flowed. The Works was an expand/keep our audience album. I think after a while they became bored and that shows in their songwriting. They were writing for their (hopefully new) audience and not for themselves. Up until Jazz I'd say they wrote for themselves, after that they wrote for whatever audience they thought they'd find.

Speaking of Headlong, I also love how Freddie sings the part "when a red hot man meets a white hot lady" and also the following line. So much attitude and energy!

For me Innuendo definitely has Freddie's best voice usage. I'm most fond of his deep calm voice and also the one he uses in the example above and I Want it All.

Of course, the first lines of TSMGO are also pure magic. It's a shame that he had to die so soon after the release of Innuendo. I'm sure the next "real" album would have been even more amazing sound-wise.

ride the wild wind is a fucking amazing track, my third favorite of innuendo album

The entire Innuendo album is amazing, beginning to end. And once you understand the Queen story and what Freddie did to be able to sing on that album...makes it even more incredible and powerful.

The album is very much like Queen in full circle. Full of drama, rock, fun (Slightly Mad and Delilah are just fun, come on), and the last loop of "go on, go on, go on" for TSMGO left me (and still does!) speechless. Pure genius.

Delilah - funny and typically Freddie; should have NO PLACE on a Queen album though - save that shit for a solo project.
[/QUOTE]

That wasn't so easy for him at that point - saving it for later - he was "late."

By the way, I really like "Delilah," it has a cool beat, and Freddie sings great ... as always.

I just found out today that the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the words "Into each life some rain must fall" in the poem "The Rainy Day".

Sounds familiar ?

"Ride The Wild Wind" was an instant standout track on the Innuendo album, for *me*, when it was released in '91. The song had "HIT SINGLE" written all over it, imo. I really think that it should have been the first single released from the album, here in the U.S.. It would have fit very well into what was happening at the time...that whole techno-rock mix.
