CMSDrums, re:

Absolutely. For a man with a PHd (I firmly believe that only medical practitioners should have the right to call themselves "Doctor"), he comes across as knowing very little commercially. I wonder how much REAL input Brian had during the band's heyday and John was on the scene to handle the "business side of things"? I'm guessing not a lot as, from all I've managed to garner through the years, Brian was a pretty marginal figure where the decision making process was concerned and only interested in lavishing everything with guitar overdubs.
My bet has always been that the rest of the band would have been happy for something like "Live Killers" to go out as it was, only for Brian to threaten to pull it unless he could overdub the perfect solo........

I'd be happy with Rare Live / Magic Years on a 2 DVD set if anything. At least they're interesting period pieces.[/QUOTE]
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!
One thing we don't want is to return to the dreadful 'cut & paste twin' 80s montages. They're so dated nowadays anyway

I can see where dysan's coming from on this - remember, at the time, they weren't all that bad, were they - something was certainly better than nothing. For a documentary, The Magic Years was great but a s a stand-alone release, Rare Live was a shocking embarassment. What on EARTH posessed the powers that be who though we'd even be INTERESTED in seeing cuts and edits of footage like that?

Holy crap, man, let it drop. Every time Rich posts in any thread you mysteriously show up. rocknrolllover is a troll; he verbally abuses people and can be downright vicious sometimes. Why don't you call him out?
You seem to have this chip on your shoulder with Rich. We get it; you don't like him, and you feel the need to bully him at the drop of a penny. But whatever you have against him, you're ruining the board with your constant diversions. Take it to email or private message and keep things on topic. No one cares about your stupid little spats.

You know, taking a closer look at the track list for the ICON cd, only 4 of the tracks are from the 80's and 90's. The rest are from the 70's. That's interesting.

Is it aimed at the US market? Would make sense if that's the case........

Indeed - only two Freddie songs too which could be considered interesting too. This is the same as Roger, and there are three Brian and one John sole credits. Three combined band compositions bring up the 11 total, but I'd be interested to see how I Want It All and The Show Must Go On are credited on the sleeve, bearing in mind in recent years they have been put down on some releases as solely Brian compositions - if that happens here he'll have five sole credits!

They have the multitracks for Earls Court, so the comment re surround mix is bollocks. Then take into account that no one listens to music in surround and that Wembley doesn't even have a proper fucking surround mix because they couldn't be bothered.
What you have to remember is that the band members aren't arsed about anything (Brian it seems actively doesn't want much out there for fans), and the guys like GT and GB aren't either as they already have their own versions of everything. They have rough mixes set up of EVERYTHING in the archives for their own amusement. I personally don't believe a Rainbow DVD will happen, but if it does it will be a fraction as good as it could have been.

I don't know if Earls Court audio would be so hard to work. At least the '39' track included on the ANATO Bonus EP sounds pretty nice..

They've already got the audio mixed to stereo. No ones care's about 5.1 (although easily assembled). End of chat. No reason for this stuff not being released apart from QPL's bizarre agenda of refusing to release decent stuff from the "archive".

In response to a couple of the points I made:
Rainbow and Hammersmith '75 = boring: please read the next part of my original post about the sweeties.
Rare Live / Magic Years = 80s dated c&p job = please read the next part of my original post about them being interesting period pieces.
I'm charging towards my 1000th post. Can we have a party?

The problem with the Earl's Court recordings is, as the 1st night audience recording we put out over a year ago proves, they were having major problems with faulty patch cables chiefly on the vocal mics. It's possible too they were also having a bad night with the various equipment on the audio chain ("exploding" amps anyone?) which may have also contributed to the various problems plaguing the EC SB masters.
You can even hear minor noises not typical of an absolutely clean recording on the "'39" recording on the ANATO bonus CD, and I will bet you guys anything even my studio engineer buddy (who incidentally did the remastering work on aforementioned aud. recording) will say that there's been restoration work done just to get it to sound good!
