Very interesting story, thanks Miklos! Always nice to see missing works turn up. Hopefully the concert will be restored.
I see the restored version of "The Witness" will premier June 1 at Urania. Wish my Hungarian was better, it looks like a good film. The censored version scored 8.6 at IMDB.[/QUOTE]

I'm not sure but was the Hungarian RHapsody converted from PAL to NTSC?

I believe the DVD was NTSC. Why?

Indeed. So the blu ray is 23.976 fps. It was shot in 24 fps though but that's another discussion. Let's just say that the blu ray is nearly 24 fps and looks exactly the way it's supposed to :)

I don't think the quality of the footage matters that much as long as it captured the movement of Freddie and the band.
Colour and detail can also be added in in post production.
They already have good footage of the stage and the band on the day which can be used to correct any damaged footage.

I don't think we will see details added in movie post-production within our lifetime.
Maybe until 2200 a supercomputer with an heuristic algorithm accessing a superdatabase of billions of hours of recorded reality (including "the good footage of the stage and the band on that day") will be able to produce such an enhancement.
Hopefully, by that time robots will run the world and idiots like you will be extinct.
But unfortunately for Queen fans, the robots will probably prefer Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk.

"But unfortunately for Queen fans, the robots will probably prefer Tangerine Dream or Kraftwerk" - HA HA! Love the irony!
Remember folks that no original film reels have as yet been found, just an old rickety shed where they *could* have been thrown. We await news from Miklos...
Queenman stated earlier that DORO had made a mess of their archive too and I'd always wondered why none of their footage (e.g. the stuff at Knebworth) was used in the 'A Magic Year' documentary included in the original Hungarian Rhapsody DVD 2012 release. Has anyone got more information on what happened on with the DORO archive, or has that already been discussed on another long-forgotten forum discussion?

it seems they have the same problem as QP before Brooks became archivist. A lot of mislabelled, missing and other tapes. Besides that QP has to pay a commission for using DORO stuff.

@bucsateflon Just wait, it can take months to find these tapes.

Short article about Queen in Budapest in 1986. Includes an interesting story from László Hegedus, a Hungarian involved in the organization of the event.
