Please note I am not promoting this Amazon Unofficial version in any way at all.....Just to show that sellers have been ripping people off for years...why the long wait for QPL to do the same?

Sure, they're going to use a VHS as the basis for Rio...
Same for the Montreal DVD. The 2nd disc had a VHS rip of the Tokyo 1982 show. ...or laserdics rip.
If what you say is true, I guess the question is, why did they use a VHS/Laserdisc copy of this show? Official tapes damaged? Lost? Unavailable to them? There must be a reason for such a decision.

Gary, please, if you're still reading this thread, one serious question - will the first night of Wembley be more complete or will it be exactly the same edit as the 2011 edition? If nothing else I'd love to hear at least Brian's complete solo, not the edited version

Answer is so definite. It's a compilation of all previous dvd's as they were released with one weak addition as a lure. Nothing more.
P.S. I never knew Brighton Rock Solo was edited on 11/07. Possibly it caused by the lack of footage.

Actually it's because Brian messed up the ending of the solo for the first time

Their would seem to be no point in buying this set. It seems to be a clear attempt to lure fans into buying what most will already have for the chance of owning an official, though poor quality copy of Rio.
The blame for this seems to have been laid squarely at the feet of BM and RT. However it may not be as simple as that. The record company are no doubt aware of unofficial DVD copies of RIR being available. As it was filmed by a TV company at the time it is possible that they still own, and have no wish to sell the original film and sound track if it still exists. The hour long video could be all that is owned by the band and their for under licence to Capitol/ Island records.
The box set could be a record company Xmas cash in rather than the bands idea. Either way it's a rip off and not one I'll be investing in

But on 'Days of our lives' and 'The Great Pretender' documentaries we have seen snippets of more footage (with remastered audio) from Rio shows..

someone has to say this:
this by NO STRETCH a shitty release. It's a superb box set which, despite what Rio ends up sounding like, showcases Queen at various stages (pun intended!) of the 80s, when they were one of the biggest live bands in the world.
This box is a GREAT starting point if Queen live in an arena / stadium is something you would want to dig into
at the same time, this is not aimed at the longtime fans (apart from adding Rio to the mix), which is a shame. QP should reward this fan base asap with something unreleased.
however, it does NOT make this box set a shitty release. Anyone who wants to buy a Queen live dvd needen't look further

Those "bootleg" versions of Rio on DVD are "legitimate" enough that Amazon carries them and libraries in the US buy them. I just checked out Queen: Rock in Rio on DVD from my local library. It's a 2010 release from CineVu International/Downtown Entertainment, Inc. (at least that's who holds the copyright according to the artwork). I went to the Eagle Rock website (www.eagle-rock.com) to compare the track listing but the Eagle Rock site doesn't mention the new Queen box set anywhere. I haven't watched it yet but this has the same songs as the old VHS release. I wonder if QPL signed the same type of agreement for Rio that they did with Saul Swimmer for the Monteal show.
Here's the copy from the back of the box: '250000 people came to see Queen at the opening of the first of the historic "Rock in Rio" concerts held on the sandy shores of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Freddie Mercury and company perform a stage show that stagers (sic) the imagination starting with "Tie Your Mother Down" and ending with a riotous performance of "God Save The Queen" that will leave your sense reeling.' Gotta love that description of GSTQ: "a riotous performance". Indeed.

It says on the back of the box:- DTS 5.1 surround sound & also recorded 12th July 1985.
it does not say it's an amalgamation of both nights though.

At least it's reasonably priced. I never bought the 25th anniversary of Wembley and of course do not have Rio on DVD. I have the others though.
Just wish there were more incentives for the fans who already purchased the already released DVDs. :(
