When you say "legitimate" enough do you mean "professionally filmed"? Because just because they carry something does not mean it is any less a bootleg.

Indeed! Remember when certain retailers carried shit like the "In Nuce" CD, or the Earl's Court DVD currently making the rounds?

I meant that the bootleggers/pirates found a way to distribute their version of Rock in Rio on DVD in a way that makes it look like a legitimate release. A lot of libraries in the US buy their books/CDs/DVDs from wholesalers or jobbers like Baker & Taylor. I didn't mean that the release was legitimate, just that it probably fooled a lot of people who bought it, and not just the public. I was legitimately surprised that I found this in my local library. I hope that QPL were able to put a stop to these versions being sold.

Wasn't there a loophole in the Italian law that made some of these bootlegs available for sale or to be exported for a short time? I seem to recall seeing an "In Nuce" CD with a "Made in Europe" sticker on it in a record store near me. (At least I think it was Italy. Maybe it was Greece?)

"In Nuce" was an Italian release.

vhs rip

what a joke.
They could at least have ripped the Laserdisc if they don't have original tapes. What is wrong with these people? Hopefully someone will do an online DVD rip of the Laserdisc to download.

Will the "Rio" be coming out on "SD Bluray"? I mean they ripped us off for the "Freddie Tribute" Bluray, I mean - come on, what was the point of releasing the Freddie Tribute on Bluray at all when it was only in SD? But this 6 disc dvd set, takes the biscuit, For just the "RIO" DVD to be a VHS rip, well, just another blatant "No Effort at all" attempt for QPL to get us to part with our money.

Sad, Sad, Times....
Blu Ray can show SD in higher quality video than DVD can due to higher bit rate, and the sound can be better due to better audio codecs. Also you can fit more on one disc with Blu Ray. Nothing wrong with SD blu rays as a concept.

What annoys me about the Freddie Tribute is that it was shot on PAL but has only been made availably converted to NTSC frame rates on either DVD or Blu Ray. If there have been a PAL DVD I would have bought that to get the correct frame rate.

Those "bootleg" versions of Rio on DVD are "legitimate" enough that Amazon carries them and libraries in the US buy them. I just checked out Queen: Rock in Rio on DVD from my local library. It's a 2010 release from CineVu International/Downtown Entertainment, Inc. (at least that's who holds the copyright according to the artwork). I went to the Eagle Rock website (www.eagle-rock.com) to compare the track listing but the Eagle Rock site doesn't mention the new Queen box set anywhere. I haven't watched it yet but this has the same songs as the old VHS release. I wonder if QPL signed the same type of agreement for Rio that they did with Saul Swimmer for the Monteal show.

Here you can find the tracklist:
