In the early days I think they were trying to establish their bona fides as serious artists. So they (mostly) wrote all their own stuff. Later on the need to do that faded. But they still had more than enough material to not want to sacrifice any for cover versions.

As someone else said, it would be great if they would erase MJ off of any tracks they are planning to use, and either mix it a different way, or have Roger or Brian stand in for the MJ parts.

There's too much money to be made for that with all those American MJ fans, I would think. At least for now.
