Okay, this is another great article which describes Adam and his musical instrument -- his amazing voice:

http://soundbath.wordpress.com/2011/05/12/adam-lambert-and-the-basics-of-a-singer%E2%80%99s-voice-breathing-and-support/

An excerpt:

"Those of us who have been following the uber talented singer, Adam Lambert and his Glam Nation Tour around America and the world, are familiar with the fact that each show, even though set and choreographed, has been slightly different from the others, primarily because of Adam’s astounding ability to improvise music and movement anew at each performance. This has been no mean feat when you consider that he performed more than a hundred shows over a six-month period whilst giving numerous interviews and participating in meet and greets with fans before every show! Of course there were times when he was tired and times when he was ill, but his performances just became better and better as the tour forged ahead – perhaps proving that he too, was able to improve his performance when slightly ill or tired. But one thing was clear from the very beginning: Adam Lambert, the consummate professional, classically trained musician, cares very much at all times, about how he sounds – a reassuring fact, although his dedicated fans would certainly have encouraged him to feel as though he was singing to friends. And this, his first headlining tour, must have been testing at times, as he performed in a variety of venues, some of which were clearly better equipped to deal with his sound system requirements than others."

"Of course he's not ready for an arena tour on his own yet - he's just 2 albums into his career."

Poor excuse. If Lady Gaga can headline an arena tour BY 2 albums in solely on her merits, what's stopped/stopping Adam from doing the same?

OH, right, Lady Gaga actually WRITES her own stuff for the most part.
So are you saying Adam should be doing as well as Lady Gaga? Who currently can outsell Queen?
If I had said COULD, not "should," you'd be spot on. His problem is that he is surrounded by 'top 40' chart quality songwriters and not being encouraged to write his own songs, which is detrimental to his career, and the fact his former record company wanted his third album to be a covers album shows that he was not having his true potential exploited in the right direction; in other words he may as well have been taken advantage of.

Whether Queen will help guide him in that right direction will remain yet to be seen. Only time will tell.
It seems to me, based on some things Brian and Roger have said, that they'd like to guide him in a more rock direction (as opposed to pop). I get their preference - it's mine as well. But the reality of the music industry right now is that outside of legacy groups like Queen, rock is just a niche, and not a very big one at that. The stuff that passes for rock today, would hardly be called that by Queen (Nickleback, Daughtry, etc.).

The big sellers that aren't niche are pop, urban, and hip-hop. And fortunately or unfortunately, as the case may be, Adam likes pop and EDM. As a fan of classic rock myself, I loved seeing him change up his studio recordings for a more rock performance live, but that's about the best I could hope for.

Unless there's a sea-change in the music landscape, I'm not sure old-style rock is ready for a come-back yet (although I'm sure it will eventually - everything old is new again sooner or later).

I'm very interested to see what direction he goes in Era 3 in any case.

From Wikipedia:

"In 2011, when he took the stage at the MTV Europe Music Awards alongside honoree Queen, it was a fitting match for Lambert, whose style and vocals have often been compared with Freddie Mercury's. Brian May, guitarist for Queen, noted that Lambert’s voice has “sensitivity, depth, maturity, and awesome range and power which will make jaws drop”; while Roger Taylor added that Lambert had "the best range I've ever heard" in a BBC interview in 2012. Pharrell Williams, after collaborating with Lambert on his Trespassing album, commented, “This kid has a voice like a siren – there’s no guys singing in that Steve Winwood-Peter Cetera range.”

"In October 2012, British tabloid the Sunday Mirror reported that Lambert had insured his voice for $48 million. A source told the newspaper: "Insurance for stars is a big deal in the US and Adam's voice is his bacon." In September 2013, Lambert topped Yahoo! Voices's list of top ten pop singers, stating: "Lambert's vocal ability has no limits and when he takes off, it's as if a rocket has been launched. Lambert is clearly the best popular music singer the world has ever heard since Freddie Mercury".

Not to beat a dead horse (although there are some here I would like to beat), you don't have to be Adam's fan. He has enough of a fanbase without you. But what I can't tolerate is saying he is talentless and shrieks like a goat. My friends who are opera buffs are in awe of Adam's talent. Music greats (Smokey Robinson, Slash, B&R just to name a few) are in awe of Adam's talent. Do you know why? Because it is a RARE and UNDENIABLE TALENT.

Here is what one "expert" says:

"As for his voice type – like you, I too have seen so many different opinions about his voice type and the reason, I guess, is because his is such a rare voice type – people perhaps aren’t used to hearing it very often."

A disappointing thing for many Queen fans about Adam's voice is that Freddie was a baritone and Adam is a tenor. Their voices are vastly different.

Also, Adam rarely used his falsetto (the untrained ear thinks he IS using falsetto when he sings high). That is another reason people in the "know" are in awe of his vocal talent.

So, again, to say he is talentless is being disingenuous and narrow-minded. Those of us with better taste know better.

lol yeah, Caroline, please stop posting so the regs can get back to their regularly-scheduled naps. You're messing up what used to be a perfectly quiet and peaceful place! Or in other words, get off the lawn!

Yes she does have to spam this place with links. Just as she did elsewhere.
Question is, why does she feel she has to do it? The hopes we will change out mind on his voice?

Sure! Go ahead and post some links to YOUR idol, Justin Bieber! You think HE is great because all of the tweens have downloaded his songs and attended his sold-out concerts! We all know that the Biebs is way more talented than that "bland" Lambert.

Tsk, tsk. Bieber again? Never more proof of butthurt from you the way you bring other acts up, and this type of post is how you only manage to talk about other music.

Well it won't . I don't bother to read her quotes or follow her links and I doubt anyone else does either. If Adam had such an appealing voice he'd sell more records but he doesn't. Once his sheepish fans buy his music- and usually many extra copies to pad his stats- his music goes nowhere. He isn't even a notable pop artist. Just another American Idol heading for a tiny cult following.

He had his post-idle bump and now he's shrinking

They keep tailing about his great voice but while it may be technically proficient it obviously isn't appealing enough to sell records.

Adele has an amazing voice too..... and her record sales therefore make sense.
