yes i heard that bank holiday monday Queen interview with Mike Reid in 1989,
i think it was Brian who said they had taken time out to recharge there batteries.
When did the other 3 guys find out about freddies illness?
Was it in the autumn of 1989 after the Miracle singles were out?

what i am puzzled about is if freddie was so close to Mary
Austin, then why did freddie go running to Barbara Valentine
to comfort and support him?

What's with all the hate shouting down a fascinating question before it's discussed, if they don't like the thread simply ignore it, I would imagine everyone associated with queen has pondered this many many times.
My thoughts would be, if you assume everything up to the magic tour, take a example from bands of the same era, say the Rolling Stones, throughout the end of the 80s and into the 90s and 00s they went into a lull I would imagine this would have been the case with queen..'still around' but needing that 15 year or so "gap" till they re-emerge again..almost a re-birth..those previous years would have seen john leave, brian and roger essentially do what they did in reality and freddie go off and do much the same..solo work, collaborations, perhaps a west end show etc etc..then I could imagine, through random evens and a new energy they may have 'come back' fresh and re-invented, so it could be that what could have happened is,ironically what has essentially happened...
And just a note I think freddie would age in exactly the same way as brian and roger..he came across as pragmatic and care free,he'd like to look good but no way would he do Botox..he'd probably have a thin patch in his hair (because he had that in the late 80s!) and be a bit of a silver fox but no way would he have a nip and tuck..that's so not very british and I don't think very freddie the words "oh fuck it darling!" come to mind, so long it was still fun I think queen and Fred would still be rocking.

Barbara Valentine was firstly a sex partner and then a friend. Mary was previously a sex partner, and then a best friend. See the difference? Plus there's no rule book which says you can only have one close friend.

yes i understand that but freddie been so so close to mary you would have thought he would have
gone to her for emotional support in his time of need as he knew her more than Barbara..
