Queen guitarist Brian May recently told Eddie Trunk:
“I think [Adam Lambert] has woken us up — and just in time. There’s a
big call to do more shows now. So, there’s a good possibility that we
will do more shows. I think, beyond that, we’ll just see.”
He adds: “It’s a great place to be. I feel so fortunate to be going
out there. I never thought it would happen again. When Freddie went, I
thought ‘That’s it. We did that. It was a great life. Now, it’s time to
have a different life.’
“And for years, we didn’t try to be Queen in any way. I would look at
the Forum in LA, and I would look at Madison Square Garden, and I would
think ‘Those were the days.’ To come back now, all of these years
later, and to fill those places and to hear that noise. That’s
vindication for the fact that we should be playing, we should be out
there. I feel overcome with it, really.
Arse.

I guess Paul Rodgers pissed Brian off seriously, or he wouldn't try to re-write him out of the Queen+ history...

Did he laugh at Brian's hair, or was it just too much for Brian's ego when the PR songs sounded better than his own compositions?

I really felt that Paul and Brian's ego's would clash somewhere along the line, but let's not forget Paul is a serial front man, so it was always a temporary project, but just thank god he got them back out on the road. As for Adam , its good that he's rejuvenated Queen, and we may get a European tour, and hopefully something that will sound more like a full blown Queen album than Cosmos Rocks.

I just take that as Brian living in the present.

Why mention a singer he used to collaborate with?

I remember the radio interviews in early 2005. I had never heard Brian sound more excited, before or since.

The Paul Rodgers songs sounded better, because they were his songs, suited to his voice. And what a backing band he had! I'm very happy to see Brian enjoying himself during this tour. Hope to see them in Europe!!

Well, obviously. Who cares about the past, eh? Why mention some guy named Mercury then?

I do understand that Brian wants to promote his latest collaboration (who are always the greatest in the world, whether they are Britney, Dappy, or Adam), but at the same time HE should understand that other people remember his past even when he doesn't want to bring it up.

Adam Lambert didn't wake them up from a 20 year hiatus.
They played to half a million people with their previous guest singer!

It sounds so obviously false that even the most desperate fans wince when they hear that statement...

Anytime you mention 'Queen' to anybody, even non fans, they say 'Freddie Mercury'... I think Brian is trying to take Queen away from the Freddie identity. He perhaps wants to come out from under Freddie's shadow, but is trying to do so in a very gentlemanly way... Hence the over enthusiastic comments ....?
Paul Rodgers is a very respected musician in his own right. And puts his own stamp on the music. Not conforming to Brian's Queen....
And of course Brian can hardly say that his new frontman is 'adequate'!

Why the negativ responce to anything BM does or says. There are three people involved in the current line up, plus the other three musicians.

If BM was trying to remove Freddie from the current lineup why do they feature him in the show, and why are they all so willing to talk about who he was and what he did.

I feel that Queen have been very respectful of Freddies memory. I also think they are all very enthused because they are playing to American audiences which means alot to them

Because as Jefffab 1995 put it, 'You can't take Freddie Mercury out from Queen.'
Queen fans expect to see a bit of Freddie in Queen shows, and would be very disappointed if they didn't. Freddie is definitely the face of Queen.
I never said Brian was trying to pull Freddie out of the current line-up. What I said was he was trying to give Queen a distinct identity apart from Freddie's. But he has to bear in mind the immense love Queen fans have for Mercury.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm sure both Brian and Roger are very pleased to be working with Adam - and when I saw them in 2012 in Hammersmith it certainly seemed that way. All the reports I'm getting this Summer suggests it's working well for them. And I have a party of 5 to get tickets for as soon as any Southern UK gigs are announced.

As for recording with Adam I'm slightly worried that I've not heard of him ever writing material. I could be wrong - and I hope I am. Whether he can add to the writing and production I don't know. But I still think the product could be good.

And, no, I don't buy the "Bri and Rog are playing down Freddie's importance or legacy" line at all.

I don't think this interview is about playing down the importance of Freddie, it's about exaggerating the importance of their current guest singer.

Adam Lambert isn't some saviour who brought Queen back from the dead, and he won't be the last singer to perform with the band.

And five years from now Brian will be telling us that some other teen idol is the first person to make him feel like performing live since Freddie's death...
