there is at some form of homphobia in each country, but a small number of aussies have at some homphobic trait in them but there usually people with low self esteem and people ride horses and work on farms. But every country has homophobia so its no need to sound the alarm or anything like that

There's certainly a culture of self superiority among certain divisions of society here - their hatred gets directed mainly at refugees seeking asylum in Australia, and foreigners in general (the most ignorant might even generalise all Australians of Middle Eastern background to be Muslims and therefore barbarians). It's the same school of 'thought' that was behind the Cronulla Riots a few years ago - blatant racism. It's easy to imagine they'd target homosexuals as well, though I've not ever seen this myself, really. More akin to the US 'Bible belt' would be the vocal people who argue that homosexuality defiles the sanctity of marriage, based on Christian principles.

Overall, though, Australia is doing pretty well with regard to acceptance of homosexuality. Legally, we're still stagnant - gay marriage was legalised in Canberra for a very short time, and then withdrawn again, so it remains nationally outlawed. Still, our position regarding homosexuality seems much more positive when compared with our current dismal policies and expenditure on immigration and foreign aid...

Hey Gerry, check this out. I live in Southern California, born and raised. All 34 years of my life. My girlfriend and I both have friends who are gay and lesbian, and let me tell ya, they are some of the coolest mofos that I've ever known! They have a shit ton of friends.

Homophobia exists everywhere dude. So does racism. So does sexism. So does religious cults. Guess what? They are narrow-minded assholes, and they exist everywhere. Don't sit here and put the US on blast.
