Wasn't the gig shot by the BBC/Whistle test production crew. Bob Harris introduced all the acts on the day - I always thought it was shot by the BBC....

So a 16mm print of 'Sweet lady' from Hyde Park was made for promotional purposes. Interesting choice, because this is not one of the most popular Queen songs.[/QUOTE]

I don;t read here often, let alone respond to things...
Let me explain : The reason this was made on 16mm film and a lot of other VIDEO stuff in 70's what was transfered to 16 mm film is because of several reasons.

1 Imagine this in it's timeframe : the 70's ! Video tape was the standard for filming in the studio's : you know those big heavy camera's we can all see in the Hammy 75 and Rainbow 74. Why was video the standard ? Well it was inferior in picture quality compared to film (16mm , 35mm whatever you like) but editing in video was really easy to do (No-one would care about it's output, at this time no-one cared about film being (what we call now "HD") a higher quality output, as what the final consumer could recieve on his telly. And one could re-use the video tapes !! Just rewind and tape over. And don't forget the "transcoders" the machines which broadcast tv programms where video systems. One could not load a film for a broadcast. the transcoder were all video systems.

2 Imagine some tv prodcution company is planning to make a broadcast about Queen. They needed to contact Queen productions, by fax or telephone explain what they want : and right here problems will start. Hyde Park seems to be filmed on 2 inch video , most of the American stations already adapted to the 1inch format these days. A 2inch tape reel would have cost about $ 600,- to $ 1000,- per reel, this was a huge amount of money 40 years ago ! And another problem either Queen had the gig filmed on 2inch or 1inch , one would still have conflicts with the NTSC-PAL-SECAM systems. So the obvious reason to sent out visual promotional material on the 16mm film format. There won;t be any problems with the system (pal-ntsc- secam etc.) one could sent out the cheap film reels to Japan , US, Europe etc. without any problems, one could easily transfer the film to video (1inch/2inch) and make a nice broadcast. And there were NO problems with NTSC or PAL or whatever !

3 Why was Sweet Lady being used :

Let's sum it up :
Magic Years 1987
Champions of the World 1995
A Night At The Opera The MAking of (2005)
Days Of our Lives (2011)

All use footage from hyde park and all use Sweet Lady, this is because this title was selected by the band (or it's management) for a promotional reason , so it was mixed to a final version (final version? : notice the helicoptor shot of the audience mixed into the 16mm film video, (read this : the crowd footage was shot on 16 mm film , see below for more info!) . Someone said "wow Sweet Lady is good redention of our recent show in Hyde Park" So multiple formats can be found in the Queen archives of ONLY THAT SONG. Because it will be either a 7" 2 inch video , or a 16mm 7"film can , which can be found in the Queen archives. So when the DORO's made the champions of the world, they were investigating availble stuff. And they prefered to use one of these final mixed end product films video's to use in their end product. Ask yourself the question why would they bother to watch the full thing : select some of it , remaster it...etc. this would have been very costly. Same for the Take My Breath Away from Earls court, always this song is being shown in several productions.... good chanche in 1987 Doro selected this one and used it , and it was re-used afterwards.

So this said.... why it was Sweet Lady ? Because it was previously selected to been used for promotion by someone involved. Big chanche the band agreed on this song. Remember this was shot in 1976 : visual aspect was a big thing , and not openly availble.

4 I said before Video camera’s where huge things , you can all see those machines on the recent Rainbow release. There were huge expensive things to move. So the fact is when a tv stations was eager to record some footage of Queen in 70’s or 80’s on location (a concert venue) always there was a cameraman/men sent out to do the job, but it was always filmed on 16mm film. Because this was a portable recorder , a videocamera was not really a portable thing. The cameraman/men gave their results to the editor and he made a final cut for the broadcast on a videosystem 1”or 2”.

This means that no tv report concert was shot in total. So there won;t ever never be any complete filming of any Queen concert ever without the ones ordered by Queenproductions (Tokyo 79, paris 79, MK 82, Wembley 86, and those were all on video except for Budapest and Montreal) why no complete show ? This is a good question when I visit Queenlive.ca some shows tell : a complete video excists from a local tv stations …. (auckland 85, formerly munich 79, yougoslavia 79 etc.) This cannot be possible :

Fact A : All locations shots were shot on 16mm films because video camera’s were to expensive to use because of their weight : e.g. Brussels 79, we have WWRY fast (opening) and WATC (closing) so the whole thing must be filmed ? Answer NO!!!! A film reel would last for 19 minutes. Perhaps the camera team brought along 2-3 reels each. This would be a exception. They would only aim for whatever they were ordered to film (e.g. the recent hit something from the show opener, or encore). E.g. take a close look at the Rotterdam 79 : some say the whole show should have been recorded this because we have footage from WWRY fast (with the audio from the official DSMN) and we have footage from WATC (as can be seen in the Bicycle race edit on my docu and of course the japanese Jewels). No it is not, first of all Rotterdam 79 was shot by 1 single cameraman. Of course we have 2 angles, but this is due to fact this person took a new position during the shot. HE did film on the left side of the stage, and later when he had filmreel left he took another position filming wide shots from the controlroom. These control room shots were woven into the footage of Bicycle Race making it look like a 2 cam film, but it’s not : take a look at the BR footage from this show… the close up’s are filmed from the left side of the stage…. The distant (wide angle) shots show FM with his leather cap on (means WATC). So what happend this camera was ordered to film BR : when he succeeded this one he had still some of his 19 min tape left. Later he took another position and just finished his reel of film. He brought this to the editor, he made a final video cut of this for broadcast and all film cells on the cutting room floor were binned.

Fact B : I have done years and years of research : except for a 1% most of the shot material was discarted…. Thrown away that means…. Only a backup of the broadcastvideo is saved for rebroadcasts…. So all left overs were thrown away.

And for MOOGHEAD : just sit down in the corner and think about you said on the previous page of this topic!! I hope your peanut brain can understand that I only offer the real thing. I may not own the biggest vinyl collect, I may not own the biggest memorbilia collection, I do not own the most tourposters, I don’t own the biggest Queen cd collection , but I do own the largest REEL, VIDEO and FILM collection by Queen in this World !

no he didnt, he shared an inferior version of a video that has been officially released.

i'll applaud him when he shares the hyde park videos he keeps carrot dangling with, the ones he posted screenshots of that actually are something better than whats already here.

dont get me wrong, people can do what they want with their things, but carrot dangling should be condemned, not celebrated.

this is like edward snowden, do you stand with the whistleblower because hes right, or with the status quo because nobody likes to go against the grain?

Calm down people....

Mooghead is the court jester of this board( no offensive meaning), some of his statements are quite funny, some of them not so much.

Does anyone remember this? (from 2005)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Further to my earlier message about Planet Rock (222.06 on DAB Digital Radio) broadcasting live from Hyde Park in July I have just heard the following on Nicky Hornes show.

'We will be broadcasting all day from back stage at Hyde Park, and at about 9 o'clock, whilst the guys are on stage, we will be broadcasting the original Hyde Park gig from the mid '70's in its entirety. This is not a shoddy bootleg, the band have made available to us the original master tapes of the concert, and we can assure you that they are far better than anything you may already have heard'.

It never happened...

Sweet song. Imagine strolling in Hyde Park and passing by this notorious band.
