WARNING: IF YOU DON'T LIKE GETTING SPOILED OR HATE GETTING A NEGATIVE OPINION ON SOMETHING YOU LIKE JUST SIMMER DOWN AND RELAX

I recently just got the album three day earlier (not the video), the album starts off with mostly Bob Harris' speech being cut short for the song Now I'm Here. As i'm listening to the album the drums sounds way too heavy in the mix with the guitar and bass being slightly buried.

The vocals overdubs are is like trying to put a puzzle together. In almost every song (ex. Bohemian Rhapsody) you can hear the overdub where Freddie's throat cracks were or just for shit and giggles. The vocal overdubs make Freddie sound way too emotional and scared as if he just saw Miley Cyrus nude pics.

In conclusion, the album is worth getting but be aware that there will be overdubs.

The drums are not all that high in the mix. They're not very nicely mixed though - while the bass drum cuts through the mix great, the snare and the toms don't sound great as they have a lot of nice click, but almost no body (tone/ring) to them. The hi-hat is messy - it's just a constant hiss and it's very hard to hear the stick action.

Rest of the mix is alright IMO, but there's something about the overall panning and soundscape that makes it a much less impressive listen than for example the March Rainbow concert.

Very well said. I wonder why the audio is presented like that. Maybe they were limited by the quality of the master tapes or they way the instruments were recorded that night ?

The engineers responsible for recording audio were part of Queen crew or the BBC ?

Looking at the booklet and the sleeve notes I'd say it was recorded by the BBC.

The kickdrum is too damn loud in the mix.

My review of Rainbow, which is widely regarded as the best review in the world, concluded with the amazingly insightful 'it looks amazing but I have no idea what I am listening too' in relation to overdubs. I have a feeling that Hammersmith will be the same. I will reserve judgement however until said product has been consumed after which I will no doubt provide the world with another insightful and bang on critique.

I believe prewiews can be heard on I tunes. Can't listen to them myself however as I have an android phone. But for those who'd like to hear and are able to,.........

The bad things
- no Stone Fox Chase (does Brian have something against fox chasing ?)
- almost no Bob Harris intro
- John is buried down in the mix, I got used to listen to listen to his bass lines in many songs, e.g. the r'n'r medley

The good things :
- I didn't notice any obvious overdubs (unlike in the 2009 mix)
- they included the "audience gaps" - did anybody check if they're complete or am I the only person on planet Earth obsessed with these things ?
- they left Roger's mistake(s) in White Queen, I was pretty sure they will "correct" them
- nice stereo sound
- few seconds more during SWAFIB (I start to think I have some form of OCD :-) )

Overall the mix is better than I expected, I'll definitely buy the official release.

pittrek: What mistakes are we talking about? I think Roger was amazing in this version of WQ.
