The best example is after Freddie's "still I wait" in the beginning of the instrumental section, around 2:46

You mean the sort of "missing" backbeat? Pretty sure that's not a mistake, but an intentional syncopation. :)

Well they fixed Freddie's locaaaalityyyyyyy in Milton Keynes and I wouldn't call that an error too :)

The bad things

- John is buried down in the mix, I got used to listen to listen to his bass lines in many songs, e.g. the r'n'r medley
Well. John isn't there to fight his corner is he?
I still smart at what I heard 20 years ago about how Brian told Roger & John what they'd done with the MIH tracks (whilst he was off on his solo tours) was shit, and he took over and gave every song on the entire album that "same" sound.

Would love to hear what R&J did.

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day, I'd really like to hear that as well.

I have a more psychological problem with that release.
It just don´t turn me on somehow. The lack of worthy bonus material is another potential issue imo.

I too would love to hear some of Roger and John's early Made In Heaven versions/mixes.

I second that, if they ever do a studio box set (spoiler alert: they very likely won't.)

It's seriously an important part of their history - it's what brought Brian back into the band and, ultimately, somehow led to Deacon's departure. We'll probably never know why.

My quick guess is creative differences, regarding the future of the band as it was back then.

And in the process Brian helped creating the most beautiful record in rock!

Don´t get me wrong, i would love to hear what Roger and John did too, but after i heard "MIH" my only thought was that it was perfect! It´s probably the best Brian record in Queen - every single note Brian played was perfect and made sense.

And the "same" sound you´re refering to that Brian applied to all the album was essencial to create some kind of conceptual album.

I completely respect those who prefer the 89 version of "My life has been Saved", but the 1995 is perfect for the record. And i believe that Brian made all the good decisions for the songs, because in this case - MLHBS - he took out some guitars to give it that sound.

And bottom line is if Roger and John didn´t agree with it, they wouldn´t have approved it. Brian is hardly a bully inside Queen, and Roger and John aren´t two pussies who would agree to Brian to not piss him off. But after they´d heard what Brian did to "Made in Heaven" and specially "IWBTLY" maybe they realized that what they had donne couldn´t be compared with what the end result was with Brian´s input. I think this is all natural!

And just one final note about John and this new release:

I don´t think it´s a matter of John being there to fight his corner or not. These guys are in the music business for more than 40 years, and they do what it´s best for the music. It would be pretty childish for them to be fighting about wanting their instrument louder in the mix for no other reason than they are playing it. I don´t think they became successful musicians with this kind of attitude. If they ruin one instrument sound on purpose they are ruining the music for everybody. I don´t know how anyone could win in this situation.

I don´t think John wanted to leave Queen. He wanted to leave the spotlight and i think it´s pretty obvious why.

The only way to get out of the spotlight was to leave Queen.

He didn't want to leave Queen, but after Queen ceased to exist in 1991 he found it very easy....

When can I order the new Hyde Park DVD?
Next autumn. Or in 2076. There is no third option.

Well I managed to get the DVD a day early due to my friend working at a record store. So here is my review:

The concert itself is great. The picture quality is the same as always. But the sound is better than ever.

Now for the documentary...very well executed. A few laughs in there too. There is a little bit of the soundcheck audio there. Freddie talks about where Bob Harris will do his introduction, and there's a small bit of Bo Rhap where Brian does a guitar solo at the BEGINNING of the song. Although Bob's intro isn't on the main feature. You can see it in full in the doc. No one talks over it. There is also a little bit of Hyde Park footage at the end. Makes me hopefully for the next release.

As for Japan 75...same as the Days of Our Lives Japanese bonus footage.
