That's not John's bass, that's Freddie playing the bass line on a synthesiser.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Khashoggi's Ship is pretty awful in places:
"We got love, and we got style, and we got sex...."
"We had a food fight in somebody's face"

My Baby Does Me: pretty poor lyrics but strangely actually fit the laid back feel of the song, and I reckon the repetitive lines are a homage to that style of repetition in blues songs.

I can't believe no one has flagged Delilah yet!!! :-)

"string back gloves in my automolove"...What does that even mean ?

String-backed gloves were (are)? driving gloves. "Automolove" is, I've always thought, a love of cars. Maybe the object of the protagonist's love, namely a car.

"Friends" must be one of my favourites.

"The other half ran away,
Taking all the cash and leaving you with the lumber,
Got a pain in the chest,
Doctors on strike what you need is a rest.
It's not easy love, but you've got friends you can trust".

The word "uninspired" comes to mind.

"Is it raining in heaven/do you want us to cry?"

"Why don't you take another little piece of my heart
Why don't you take it and break it
And tear it all apart
All I do is give
All you do is take
Baby why don't you give me
A brand new start"

Sweet Lady is Shakespeareian compared to these.

"Then it ain't so groovy when you're screaming in the night
Let me out of this cheap `B' movie"

Terrible lyrics here. It's usually only a few Roger's lyrics that make cringe but this stank the place out the first time I heard it and I find myself mentally preparing for it every time it comes on my stereo. The line about the rat race in Ride The Wild Wind is pretty naff too.

It's not Queen, but Brian's On May Way Up....."I've got positivism to give em"???? Always hated that one....lol
I'll take you to the Seven Seas of Rhye

^Yup. It's funny how Brian was once a great lyricist in the 70's. By the 90's it was a total cheese fest.

'Why don't you twist it, and turn it
and cut it like a knife?'

It just doesn't work - those words, arranged in that way, suggest that the knife is being cut, not doing the cutting. Plus, even if the line was 'Cut it with a knife', it would still be a pretty bad metaphor and lyric.

I loved The Call (the Mandela 46664 song) until someone here pointed out the absolutely awful lyrics, especially this line:

"They got no weapons so they just bug us for the crack now" :(

I still think it;s a good song -- maybe the last time 'Queen' tried anything complicated or ambitious, but must admit the lyrics are a turn-off.
"Queen is the only band in the world that can play so heavily that your nose bleeds, then offer a silk handkerchief to clean up with."

"Give me your mind baby give me your body
Give me some time baby let's have a party
It ain't no time for sleepin' baby
Soon it's round your street I'm creeping"
Makes me cringe pretty hard.

Body Language is on top of my list. Musically it's fun, but lyrics are boring... Repeat again, again and again... Only listenable parts are John's bass I think...
Nah, don't give it any credit, it's not even fun at all musically. And like other's have said, that's not John, and regardless the bass sucks just as bad as anything else. It's kind of fun live with somewhat more stripped down instrumentation that actually has some semblance of energy, but on the record it's just awful.

I might get slated for it, but I never really liked Drowse. LOASA is one of my faves though. In only seven Days is ok I guess.
Okay, I'm really curious, what exactly do you not like about the lyrics? Roger's got some doozies, but that particular song is easily his best, and quite possibly the best of any Queen song.

That would be Party you're talking about and those lyrics are great.

I really hate the lyrics to Let Your Heart Rule Your Head. At least On My Way Up is pretty legitimately fun musically; LYHRYH is just a lame '39 rip-off with pretty much no energy.
These are the days of our lives They've flown in the swiftness of time.

I'm in love with my car and My babe does me,maybe.

Definitely I'm in love with my Car...
"Told my girl I just had to forget her,
Rather buy me a new cartburettor,
So she made tracks sayin' ths is the end now,
Cars don't talk back they're just four wheeled friends now"
I'm not some kind of crazy feminist but this verse is sexist.
