My wife just read my comment and agrees wholeheartedly.

Greg Brooks is alright. I still believe a lot of the reticence is jealousy (he has had access to all the master tapes and met all the members and has the job we would all give our left nut for...). He has no say in what Queen release. Stop using him as a conduit.

Jealous?: Absolutely not, trust me, i'm old enough to know and appreciate things that really matter.
Blame him? Absolutely not.
"Stop using him as a conduit.": sometimes reading his comments I wonder who is using who

Dear Mr RS_Protos, QPL would like to pay you £xxxxxx a year to plunder the archives and have no responsibility for the subsequent output. Yes or no?

I think he's got a magnificent job but it would ridiculously petty to resent him for that. I don't 'hate' him or 'dislike' him as such since I've never met him, but I do think some of his past comments have been, to say the least, hideously disrespectful towards a community which, sure, might have its flaws, but is all in all mostly harmless ... but then again, so is he, so I really don't mind.
Based on his most recent activity, he's been quite funny (that whole 'I've read my comments and agree with myself' bit might become a classic from now on) but, alas, not really informative.

Nobody blaims the archivist for the lack of archive releases.
For years the archivist has given hints of wonderful things existing on the archive...
It's been so many years now that most of us have just grown tired of always the same high hopes with nothing really happening.
The 'rare bbc item' is the best example... They didn't even include it in the BBC box...
They could have searched they archive for great bonus content on Odeon... It just doesn't happen.
I have officially given up.

I think this rare item is the golders green concert...
who would have expected that it would be released?

I would have expected it to be the full show, IF they finally decided to release it.
But here we are.

I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

I'm a member of several forums for various artists and the one thing they all have in common is that a very small minority of people make the experience very sour for anyone who disagrees with them or holds an opinion they deem less than worthy. For example, on an Elvis forum some people get pelters for preferring 70's Elvis and others get abuse for suggesting a particular song has merit, a song which may not be generally viewed as one of his better ones. And you end up with a topic on an interesting subject being hijacked for pages and pages by a couple of idiots hurling negativity at each other instead of engaging on the subject other readers want to engage in.And there's no real consequence to the abuse as moderators rarely step in to say someone is out of order. Freedom of speech is a good thing, but moderators should keep an eye on quality control at the same time. The point is it's easy for people to use the anonymity of the internet to let their intolerance shine - even when they're discussing a mutual interest. It seems like being a pillock is human nature but the trick is not to rise to it because they'll end up dragging all of us down.

How about once every 2 months, a lucky poster is selected and PM'd for a tour of the archive, to shadow an afternoon there. Offer up ideas, have a listen to a few things. Would be quite beneficial on both sides I think.

Greg, re:
>Your last sentence is well put, but honestly, and NOT wanting to sound arrogant, I don't want to engage a lot of the annoying people here, nor be engaged by them. Not remotely. And I realise that's unfortunate for all the genuinely nice people. All of you SENSIBLE respectful QZ-ers should set up your own forum and not permit the negative moaning draining wearisome plebs to join it. I know that's segregation... but in this instance it'd be worth the hassle so that we could indeed enjoy the kind of eloquent interaction you describe - without the moronic distractions that inevitably plague each decent and well-meant posting.
I get this totally; and why wouldn't you be put off by some (all) of the UTTER retards that feel they need to (ahem) contribute whilst hiding behind pseydonyms.
But, to what extent does that remoteness extend? Would you be at all prepared to provide, say, me, with some detail to put up here and then manage / deal with the responses? If a new board was created with the necessary moderation outside of QPL / OIQFC, would you engage then?
Segregation is a reality - christ, I've just returned to Blighty after enduring 5 years of segregation in South Africa and, believe me, no matter how turds are polished or painted, turds they will always be. But you get used to it and then realising that its as inevitable as death and taxes, get past it,
Greg, I think its really important to have your input here. I desperately want John Stuart back on board. There's an incredible fountain of knowledge about.......

How about a weekly blog on the official website... offering tidbits, interesting info and stories and general stuff us 'nice' Queenzoners would love...but without the hassle of having to deal with any replies? Maybe you answer one or two questions a week regarding certain demos, live performances, dates, etc.
I think it would be nice to have a connection with the establishment behind Queen, but i agree it's wasted on an unmoderated forum which will just resort in name calling and such.
Don't want to appear like i'm sucking up to Greg - it's just, he's never personally annoyed me or been rude to me.

GB: Oh dear, On My Way Up, you sound to be some way down the road of On Your Way Down.
Please do not officially give up. Not yet. Nor unofficially.
