Greg, re:
>> I'm merely saying that the interviews at the convention, particularly the most recent one, invariably cover some very serious and significant Queen history - such as Freddie's last ever vocal sessions, and that's not being even mentioned on QZ, much less debated or analysed like everything else usually would be, whereas random speculation such as whether Freddie was autistic or not is deemed to be MORE thread/post-worthy.
And, of COURSE, you're absolutely right. There's more crap on here than the entire length of The Ganges could sustain and, as much as I like the nature of the lack of moderation here and have personally 'benefited' from it in the past, I'm constantly staggered at the number of posts that are nothing more than a waste of keystrokes and the kinetic energy used to generate them.
What would be of MASSIVE value to everyone here, I'm absolutely certain, would be if you could contribute a few really good fact pieces every now and then. Maybe an Archivist's Blog or "Here's Something You Didn't Know" section containing snippets of information or transcripts of discussions you illustrated in an other thread. All designed to benefit and educate.
Sure, your usual suspects will do all they can to derail the threads and turn them in to something that they're not meant to be, but if we can get enough interest in them and the disruptive elements are ignored, we could start to get some absolutely cracking stuff back up on here again.
I'd be more than happy to help collate, edit etc and would like to think that there would be a core of people here willing to assist in making this place a bit better than it has become over recent times.
Maybe it'll engage YOU a bit more Greg; separating the wheat from the chaff in the time honored tradition of sending people to Coventry.......
Your thoughts?

Yes, yes, yes! I totally second that. It would be fascinating. Hopefully, we'll have Greg's reply soon(er or later).

I agree.... maybe it'd go a little way to building bridges with the fans they're quick to isolate?

I would like to see that. There should be enough facts, rumors and anecdotes to discuss about.
Queen`s little "split up" when Brian left the Band during summer 75`for example.

Or the often rumoured duet cover of Rihanna's Umbrella by Freddie and Brian. When will that ever surface?
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira · Member since
I wouldn't buy that. They're more like the Rain Must Fall kind of guys.
Cheers,

Hello Benn and All (those who are interested anyway!!!)
It's difficult to reply to this honestly, without sounding churlish, bitter, resentful or antagonistic, or any number of other such things that I've been accused of being on QZ at various times... but I'll give it a go.
I'm generally damned if I do and damned if I don't on QZ, and indeed damned just for the sake of being damned. It's not an ideal start-point for the kind of situation you're describing we aim for, is it?
So, in no particular order... when I first started contributing to QZ I usually did so in a calm, considered, friendly, open, candid and respectful way. Sarcastic too sometimes, when it called for it, yes, but that is my way. However, several QZers were very far from respectful in return and often took pleasure in being insulting. Probably wrongly, my reaction to that was to give back exactly the same as I received. Nothing more, nothing less.
Being insulted on QZ, or indeed having my life threatened, honestly never upset me. I laughed it off as "just rantings on a forum from some anonymous mad people'. It did irritate me sometimes, of course, and certain ignorant comments on here would get my back up occasionally - as intended. But mostly I scrolled past all the crap and read only the good things. Plus... I simply don't have time to read it ALL.
But... there are some great people here too, and some fans that are genuinely interested in what I can impart, so for their sake I soldiered on, putting up with some SERIOUSLY tedious and ignorant and insulting people on here. I confess that sometimes it amused me to make the odd person furious simply by giving back the same kind of grief that they gave me. I remember stating on here a few years ago, 'Some people can dish it out, but cannot take it back.' That is still true.
So.... when all said and done... whatever I write here, however I offer it, and moreover however amenable and generous I try to be with what I can offer (bearing in mind I have to be careful about EVERY sentence I write, because I respect my employers' privacy and business interests, as well as my own job and future)... I always get some very annoying persons picking it all apart and taking the piss, and being nasty or vindictive, for no other reason than they don't like me (having never actually met me I might add) and simply for the sake of having a pop at the whole Queen 'machine' thru me. Can you imagine how tedious that is?
Constructive comment is great. Fine. I respect and welcome that. But most times, with the majority of the posts/replies I provoke, I get uninformed idiots being aggressive and with little or nothing genuinely relevant to offer. A lot of them also know nothing or very little about Queen, so I wonder why they are here at all wasting your time and mine. In that situation, I ask you, who would put themselves up for more and more of it? It would be simply too wearing to be here among that kind of feeling for very long. Hence I nip off for a few months, come back for a fortnight or so, then nip off again. I cannot stay around here like you guys do. I'd go mad.
I don't think I could commit to a regular 'spot' here, because while I know there would also be some very good and productive and friendly well-intended comments and suggestions, and I'd offer some interesting things along the way too.... all the other nonsense precludes me from going there. To tell the truth, I'd rather go and cut my grass at home... and I hate that job. But at least there's a nice end-result to that.
Your last sentence is well put, but honestly, and NOT wanting to sound arrogant, I don't want to engage a lot of the annoying people here, nor be engaged by them. Not remotely. And I realise that's unfortunate for all the genuinely nice people. All of you SENSIBLE respectful QZ-ers should set up your own forum and not permit the negative moaning draining wearisome plebs to join it. I know that's segregation... but in this instance it'd be worth the hassle so that we could indeed enjoy the kind of eloquent interaction you describe - without the moronic distractions that inevitably plague each decent and well-meant posting.
It's a nice thought, Benn, but not practical here... as you will very very soon see from some of the replies these comments will undoubtedly provoke. You can see what I'm up against 80% of the time.
Regards
GB

I just read the above comments back to myself, and I agree wholeheartedly with myself.

I agree with one thing 100 percent, " I'd rather go and cut my grass at home.." too. Damn I hate to be negative but the last few years my interest in Queen(over 35 years) is
going down fast. The last 20 years i was hoping for more rare material releases but for me it's crap, sorry. I'm not saying it's GB's fault either. I just had enough of the
whole Q machine and there games. i hate to say it to all the long time fans here but they need to understand that the run around garbage talk will never end from the
Q machine. They know exactly what the old fans want by now and it's not a monopoly game, I guarantee you that.

I just read the above comments back to myself, and I agree wholeheartedly with RS_Protos! (I enjoyed the Rainbow release but apart from that there has been meagre pickings - Queen fan for over 40 years).

I read all these posts and wondered why I didn't cut my grass instead.
