Don't want to appear like i'm sucking up to Greg - it's just, he's never personally annoyed me or been rude to me.
Just hang around long enough...you'll get your turn!!! :-)
Nobody blaims the archivist for the lack of archive releases.
For years the archivist has given hints of wonderful things existing on the archive...
It's been so many years now that most of us have just grown tired of always the same high hopes with nothing really happening.
The 'rare bbc item' is the best example... They didn't even include it in the BBC box...
They could have searched they archive for great bonus content on Odeon... It just doesn't happen.
I have officially given up.
GB: Oh dear, On My Way Up, you sound to be some way down the road of On Your Way Down.

Please do not officially give up. Not yet. Nor unofficially.

Really? ... Must be sarcasm ... although perhaps GB has a distorted view of reality.

GREG:
Going off topic slightly, but on a very positive note, Those remastered Mr Bad Guy tracks from the recent singles release sound so much richer than the previous versions from the the FM Solo Box of 2000.
Can we have the entire album remastered and released please?
Same with the original "Barcelona" album...
Thanks!

Well.

I'm a 46 year old, fairly sensible and coherent long term fan of Queen who actually left this board because of GB and his attitude and some of his comments,

I occasionally pop in (usually around the time of a new release) just to get some info. But I think the last time I posted here was when The Lot was released.

The reality is for someone like me, is that I love this band. I love their music and will ever be grateful for what they have brought to my life over the years. One of my first concerts, at the age of 16, was Knebworth and I will remember it until the day that I die.

I buy pretty much everything Queen release, including the amazing Vinyl box set last year.

But I have grown more and more disillusioned with the output over the last few years. The puzzling nature of what is put out and the lack of care and attention is, to me, astonishing. For example - I am buying the six CD edition of On Air and the vinyl this Friday. But the decision to only put the highlights of the concerts on the CD set is astonishing.

Whereas I appreciate that GB does not directly choose what goes on these releases, his attitude towards the fans on here allied to the shoddiness of the release pattern helps paint a picture of an organisation who really doesn't care much for us fans.

And realistically why should they care? Why should they give us, for example, the superb boxes that Pink Floyd, Dylan, Bowie, R.E.M. Etc etc give us? They don't have to.

I have accepted as a fan the contempt I which I am held by GB and the band and that's ok.

Rather than moan about it continuously I make a conscious choice to buy something for the meagre pickings it offers and not moan about it on an online forum,

It isn't going to make any difference.

If I thought GB had any respect for the fans I would listen. I would be interested - but even allowing for the restrictions that are necessarily placed on him by his responsibilities I feel that he doesn't.

So I have no interest.

It's a shame I feel but it won't change.

GB: MORE FOOL YOU.

The reality is for someone like me, is that I love this band. I love their music and will ever be grateful for what they have brought to my life over the years. One of my first concerts, at the age of 16, was Knebworth and I will remember it until the day that I die.

GB: GOOD TO HEAR.

I buy pretty much everything Queen release, including the amazing Vinyl box set last year.

GB: EVEN BETTER TO HEAR.

GB: IF THE ENTIRE CONCERT IN EACH CASE WAS NOT RELEASE-WORTHY, BUT HIGHLIGHTS OF EACH ONE WAS, WOULD THAT BE SO ASTONISHING?

IF QPL HAD PUT OUT THE ENTIRE MANNHEIM CONCERT, HAVING ALREADY PUT OUT TWO ENTIRE WEMBLEY CONCERTS AND ONE FROM BUDAPEST, FROM EXACTLY THE SAME TOUR, WOULD YOU NOT BE SAYING "THIS IS ASTONISHING TO ME! I'D RATHER HAVE HAD SOME MORUMBI 1981 AND GOLDERS GREEN 1973, SINCE THEY TOO WERE BROADCAST ON RADIO."

Whereas I appreciate that GB does not directly choose what goes on these releases, his attitude towards the fans on here allied to the shoddiness of the release pattern helps paint a picture of an organisation who really doesn't care much for us fans.

GB: ONLY CERTAIN FANS HERE. NOT ALL. NOT BY A LONG WAY - AS IS CLEAR FROM OTHER COMMENTS FROM FANS ON THIS THREAD. YOU CAN SEE THEM TOO, RIGHT? YOU SHOULD BE MORE BALANCED, NOT SO BIASSED AND SO 'CHIP ON YOUR SHOULDER', BECAUSE THEN I WOULD BE MORE PREPARED TO LISTEN TO CONSIDERED, FAIR AND CONSTRUCTIVE, COMMENTS.

And realistically why should they care? Why should they give us, for example, the superb boxes that Pink Floyd, Dylan, Bowie, R.E.M. Etc etc give us? They don't have to.

I have accepted as a fan the contempt in which I am held by GB and the band and that's ok.

GB: COULD YOU FEEL ANY MORE SORRY FOR YOURSELF!?

Rather than moan about it continuously I make a conscious choice to buy something for the meagre pickings it offers and not moan about it on an online forum,

GB: LIKE YOU ARE HERE !!

It isn't going to make any difference.

If I thought GB had any respect for the fans I would listen. I would be interested - but even allowing for the restrictions that are necessarily placed on him by his responsibilities I feel that he doesn't.

GB: YOU SHOULD READ OTHER THREADS, PLUS COMMENTS ON THIS ONE, AND YOU'LL SEE THAT PLENTY OF OTHER FANS ON QZ HAVE HEATHY REGARD FOR ME AND THE JOB I DO, AND TRY TO DO. MANY OF THEM READ THINGS CAREFULLY AND THEREFORE HAVE A FAIR AND BALANCED OVERVIEW. IT'S A PITY YOU DON'T. YOU'RE OFFERING NOTHING NEW, YOU JUST JUMP ON OLD AND PREDICTABLE BANDWAGON. THAT IS TEDIOUS IN THE EXTREME - TO ME ANYWAY.

So I have no interest. It's a shame I feel but it won't change.

GB: NOTHING MUCH WILL CHANGE IN YOUR MIND, THAT'S APPARENT. THANK GOODNESS NOT EVERYONE THINGS LIKE YOU - OR AT LEAST EXPRESSES THEMSELVES LIKE YOU... ASSUMING THAT EVERYONE ELSE SHARES YOUR OPINION, WHEN THEY VERY CLEARLY DO NOT.
All so wearisomely predictable. A man who FEELS THE NEED TO SHOUT on an Internet forum.

I just popped in around the Queen On Air release to see what others thought. I shall pop off again now, as nothing changes.

I take your point on the concerts and appreciate you making it - however the reasoning behind that could have been made clearer earlier.

I shall be buying the vinyl edition and the six disc box set tomorrow and I will love them in the same way I loved the vinyl box last year despite the quality control issues. The BBC sessions have long deserved a serious and proper release and I'm pleased we're getting them.

I'm not going to expand on my issues. There's no point.

Greg, you keep saying that it is ridiculous to put the complete Mannheim concert on a disc, or for that matter to release the full Mannheim show. As we already have both Wembley's and Budapest. So in all fairness,it is to say no more releases or shows, or to stretch it a bit far, no more tracks of any 1986 shows? As you say, it is from one tour? But why have 'they' opted to give us seven tracks of the Mannheim show? We have Wembley, we have Budapest? There was nothing left to choose from? It seems to me that you are a bit suprised that the fans are, the least to say disappointed with the result? It's not that strange some of us are really, really disappointed? The Rainbow box, that to me was stunning release, I wished that QPL kept going on that course, sadly they did not......

It's a shame to have someone with so much knowledge and insight not wanting to share because of shit that has gone on here in the past. Forums are great for this type of information but sometimes unfortunately this type of shit goes on. I can understand Greg's position on it though. So many questions I would of loved to have asked. :(

Well, if "they" think it's not a good idea to release a 4th complete 1986 show, then why not give us a couple UNHEARD 1977 or 1979 concerts... I'm sure recordings DO exist...

In my opinion, i don't mind a highlights disc showing the band in different eras, i once made my own Greatest Hits Live albums, which consisted of a similiar thing and it's interesting to get the different flavours of different tours....however....

I would have also anticipated that a lot of the fans would hear a few songs and would want the rest of the gig. Therefore i would have included a code with each CD, which allowed you to a free hi-res download of the entire gig from the official website.

Greg, is this something which you would potentially make possible one day? As then it please both parties - without the need to released an 8 disc version.

GB: Wow! This is great and significant news indeed, on my way up. You obviously have some analog multi-track audio recordings of this concert. How exciting.

Please send them to me (or bring them in person, better still) and we'll see how much of it we can use. I agree, we should endeavour to put that out. Why didn't you tell us before?

I actually read your Queen live book (which I bought and own and I would even like being able to buy the since 2010 forthcoming revised edition...) several times and it's obvious you had access to a recording of that show since you transcribed the stage banter from Freddie (he had a lot to say that night!).
So, somewhere in some archive there IS a recording of that show. It may not be multi-track but it is something - in whatever quality - would make all of us very very excited.

Why this obsession in the Queen camp with multi-track? I have plenty of wonderful audio live recordings that are just great sounding stereo or even mono recordings.
