Adrian b,
Freddie returned to London for awhile after he left New York, but pretty soon, he was off to Munich Germany. He made many connections in Munich, liked the fast-paced lifestyle and was smitten with a guy named Winifred (Wini) who he started a relationship with (and who was later diagnosed). Mary always kept the Garden Lodge ready for whenever he wanted to visit. After Germany he met his last lover, Jim Hutton who he found to be a great comfort through the rest of his years.

Hi Thundergod. Long shot here, but did Fred ever discuss what Bo Rhap was about? Cheers.

Hi Thundergod!
umm... I've read Ratty Hince's book about his time with Queen and one of the chapters he mentioned '"The Pink Angels" led by a chap named Thor'. Care to share some memories about the Pink Angels and Queen?

Thanks for sharing, I bet he loved New York. Only been a few times but it's a great place to visit, I'm sure it was a bit shady and dangerous in the early 80's

Bohemian Rhapsody was based on Freddie's love of opera. The wording and the music sounded like it was from the 1800's with things like Scaramouche, Fandango, the use of a weapon (gun against my head) which is throughout Opera. Any deep meaning (if there was one) I never was told this. Again with "Barcelona", he created an opera like atmosphere with Montserrat Caballe. That would be all I know..but WHAT great music this is.

There were no "pink angels" that I am aware of . He did, however, like to call himself Mother and we were all his daughters. A game he started long before we met was to come up with a nickname for each of us based on our last names with some "B" rated actress. He, of course was Melina, for Melina Mercuri. Lee Nolan was Kathleen for Kathleen Nolan...a name that still sticks today. I was P.P...who is a "B" rated English actress P.P Arnold (I never heard of her...and my name was unique enough, so I was called Thor, my real name). Elton John was Sharon..is there a Sharon John actress somewhere? Joe Scardilli was named Liza for Liza Minnelli, etc.

Hi Thor did you ever read Jim Huttons Book? if you have what are your thoughts. I became close to Jim before his Passing and I love the Book

felix ibex,
I did not know Jim Hutton well. I know he was just the match Freddie was looking to tussle with when he was strong and when not, to get much encouragement and comfort from him. He was a good Irish, man's man who exuded the proper amount of masculinity and then, love and care for Freddie. I met him several times and he was a GREAT drinking buddy, although sometimes he went a bit too far. Unfortunately during the declining months, I did not continue to know Jim very well. I know he was responsible for up-keep of the Garden Lodge and I think built the large Coy Pond which Freddie loved so much.

Hi Thor,
This is all very interesting stuff. Thank you for sharing the side of Freddie that we fans didn't get to experience. I also live in San Diego, near the Hillcrest area, and thin kit would be great if you hosted a small event and recalled memories like Peter Freestone does. Would be a fun get together!

Projector Freddie,
I am not sure if I am ready for that yet. I got on to this site 48 hours ago...hosting an event?....nah. Maybe in the future.

Hi Thor
I would ask you something, I hope that is not so demanding.
If you could put here at least one photo of you and Freddie, a photo that has not never been published in books or internet? That'd be very nice. :)
And I have one question.I read (I think in "Mercury and Me)that this nickname,Liza, was for Joe Fanelli. Is this the same person or only same nickname? Thank you in advance.

May I ask, what is the story behind the name Thor?
