Thank you.

Hi Invisible Woman,
Unfortunately, all the photos from that time period were done as slides. Freddie got a big kick out of the various "slide-shows" that Lee Nolan created and set to music. Rather primitive, I know, but this was the early 80's. I never liked to be bothered with taking the pictures, and Lee (Kathleen) Nolan did such a good job with them. I will ask him if he would like to share some of these personal slides and if he knows how to convert slides into digital pics. Also, you are correct..Joe Fanelli was the original "Liza" but with my friend's last name being Scardilli...what else could one do with that name..LOL. Piccadilly would have worked, but that is a place, not a "B" actress's name.
Hey oligneisty,
I was born in New York City during a very bad thunderstorm on 3/13/1955. My Father proclaimed it as a "sign from the gods" while he was celebrating my birth with his drinking buddy, Jimmy Kelly. My parents are German and Austrian but the name was borrowed from Norse Mythology. My middle name is kinda strange too..Quentin. All through school I thought Quentin was a sissy name so I told people I did not have a middle name.
Also, a shout out to The Fairy King..you are very welcome. I had no idea that people would be so interested in my connections with Freddie. As I am not a name dropper, most of my current friends know that I knew Freddie but do not know many of the details, unless they ask. Thank you all for asking.

I could easily scan some of your slides in high resolution, I have a proper 35mm film photo scanner. Unfortunately I live in Europe. But there are scanning services all around. Every photo lab should have one. It would be awesome if you and your friends ever decide to share some of these memories caught on camera :)

Hello Anton3283,
Our friend John Murphy was the first to pass from AIDS. That was all of our first real wake-up calls to this menace. The topic was kept silent for a year or so after that. As Freddie was physically looking thinner and weaker with each of our visits, he did tell us he was suffering from AIDS. We had all been worried about him during the Germany days because we knew he was still out there partying while some of us had already changed our habits. But, he was never bitter or sad or "why me" and accepted his fate like the professional that he was.
If only he had been able to hang on a few more years for the new treatments to become available. Ahhh, yes...such a great loss.

Chief Mouse,
I will talk to Lee as soon as I can. He is the owner of the slides and at other times I know he was asked to accept money for their release but held on to the bulk of them (unreleased). I know I have a few earlier snap-shots, but it would be quite a major effort to rummage through boxes and boxes of not-too-carefully labeled memories. Remember, another 36 or 37 years have passed since the early 1980s. Lee is our best bet...his slides are meticulously organized.

Thanks for your reply, Thor. You are very kind. Fans are hungry as hell for this kind of stuff so excuse us for asking :) This thread was inevitable to turn into a Q&A.

Thank you for reply. I hope you're ok.
When Freddie started suspect that HIV in his body?
Did you watch last Freddie documentary with John Blunt as Freddie?

Hi SpaceGrey,
When John Murphy passed away, all of us, including Freddie, knew that the odds were that some of the rest of us would go eventually too. I believe at first Freddie ignored the signs and gained confidence in that very usual self-preservation mechanism of believing that "this could never happen to me."
I did not see that "John Blunt" documentary, but will Google it soon. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the reply. Thor, or Þór, is a common name in my country and when your name popped up in books about Queen/Freddie I always wondered if you had Nordic roots. But your story is actually quite cool.
You have stumbled upon a weird (and wonderful) community which includes many people who really know a lot about Queen and Freddie.
The question is always if you know of any unreleased songs.
When you talk about "Zanzibari chants" is that a description from Freddie? He was always so quiet about about his youth so any references to Zanzibar or India are of great interest.

Hello Thor:
It is a great pleasure to have you share some of your memories about Freddie, as a personal friend to the man that most of the world looks up to as an iconic, almost mythological figure.
I’ve always wondered what attracted Freddie to Germany. I’ve lived in NYC since I was 17. Before that I lived in Europe and was lucky enough to have my parent show me around the continent. Have visited everywhere between Baltics to UK including Austria and Germany.
Having general understanding of Freddie’s personality, I’ve always thought that NYC or LA would be best places for him outside of London. Do you have any idea what attracted him to Germany? He didn’t even speak German as far as I know.

Hey Svili,
I think I may have accidentally erased my response to your message as it does not appear here like all the others...so here goes again:
I never quite understood why, but for certain tax reasons, Freddie had to be out of the U.K. but for no longer than 2 years. I'm not sure if he had to
stay another two years outside of his country. Whatever the reason, he went to Munich and immersed himself in the fast-paced German gay scene
which he really enjoyed. He met a man there and had a relationship going. Also, he made visits to Montrose Switzerland and the people there loved him.
As you know, they built a statue to him (shame on the US and the U.K. for not doing such a tribute to such a great person and musical genius themselves).
I don't think he needed to speak German as many spoke English as well and then he did have Winifred to translate
Shout out to Richard Orchard and master marathon runner...thank you for your kind words.

Hello again olegneisti,
I can only WISH that I knew of some hidden away or unreleased music. The Queen Corporation has tight control over anything like that. Has anybody tried to get info from them?
