Looking through the bands 80s albums and "The Game" was surely there greatest of that decade. It had great songs in many styles and had 4 massive singles taken from it, Crazy little thing, Save Me, Another one bites the dust, Play the game.
i will stick my neck out here and say after "The Game" album it all went sideways!
Still it was a massive success in America and the UK. From the 80s you wont find a better Queen album than "The Game".
What do you guys think?

For me, A Kind Of Magic is better than The Game. But that's a personal thing
Queen is the best

I found that A kind of Magic was mainly linked to the Highlander film so for me was not really a proper Queen album as such, even though it had A kind of magic & Friends will be friends on it which were my two fav tracks from that album.
The Game spawned 4 hits were Magic only 3 and they were no where as powerful.

Much like Scary Monsters, released the same year, I generally think of it as the last 70s album.

I love The Game but it does feel as incomplete as pretty much everything up to Innuendo. From that perspective, I'm not sure it's better than Hot Space. Depends on my mood :)

I have a soft spot for The Miracle and I prefer it. The Game is too short and (for me) it lacks that famous Queen pompous, sophisticated feel. But this is how they wanted this album to be and that's what they did together with Mack. Now when I think about it, I like better Queen albums produced by D.Richards and Roy Baker. But I still adore some songs - Dragon Attack, Save Me, SASS and Play The Game (although I prefer it live in this case) and can enjoy the rest. Also the cover of The Game is exceptionally bad IMVHO. It looks like it was made by a 10 years old kid in a simplest editor. And why that photo is so blurry? Whereas on The Miracle I love everything, maybe apart from Party and the artwork is much much better. The overall feel of The Miracle is closer to me.

Two-fifths of The Game were recorded in the seventies, though, including its two best songs, IMO.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Maybe I am a minority believing that Flash Gordon soundtrack is great piece of music.

Also The works has good songs from pop 80s-70s combination (Radio GA GA), 80s pop IWTBF, prog rock Machines, headbanging Rock (Hammer to Fall), to classic Queen ballad. If this album had Love kills, I go crazy and killing time it could have been a milestone for the 80s

Just my personal opinion too, but "The Miracle" is their best 80s album even though it doesn't feel like an 80s work as much as their other ones (the one that feels the most like that to me is AKOM). Perhaps that's why I think that, on top of the fact that it feels a bit like they thought it could be their final album.

In any case, I think it was Brian who said that "The Game" was the logical choice for a second DVDA release, since they considered it their greatest album after ANATO. I might be wrong about this, but I think he meant it from a commercial point of view rather than absolute musical properties.

The Game is their best selling studio album in the US...so yes it's from a commercial POV. ANATO, not only cause it was their a big commercial succes worldwide, but it also has their flagship single Bo Rhap.

I would've liked Queen II to be their next DVD-A release for obvious reasons.

I try not to rate albums as better than or worse than each other.

But I do find myself playing The Game more than the next four albums that followed it ( I probably listen to Inuendo as much as if not more than The Game) I like the fact that they made quite a brave decision to go with, on most of it, a very sparce and dry production, turning their back on the almost over production they were known for.

I obviously think The Game was easy to chose from the 80s Queen back catalogue but maybe i should debate the best 70s Queen album to ruffle a few feathers on here?

i agree with some poeple here... it's an 80s album by definition but sounds like it capped the 70s. their most 80s sounding album is without a doubt The Works. And it's my least favorite of the bunch.

Queen's worst albums but (arguably) most of their greatest singles were all released in the 80s. This clearly represented their focus once Hot Space tanked. And suffice it to say, it was a very smart move.

Best of the 80s is A Kind of Magic. Yes, it was a partial soundtrack album... but aside from Pain Is So Close To Pleasure - the album is cohesive and has some great filler (Don't Lose Your Head, Gimme The Prize, One Year Of Love) to patch up the album from its monsters (A Kind of Magic, One Vision, Who Wants To Live Forever). And the other 2 songs were nothing short of brilliant... We Are The Champions 1986 = Friends Will Be Friends and (generally regarded as a) fan favorite, Princes of the Universe.

The Game is one of my favourite albums from Queen's catalogue. Like dysan, I think of it as a 70's album, despite its release date lol

The Game is great but I most like Innuendo and The Miracle. It doesn't matter to me when albums released.

Isn't 1980 the last year of the 70's?

EDIT: Wiki says
However, the Gregorian calendar begins with the year 1. (There is no year "zero", and the year before AD 1 is 1 BC with nothing in between.) Therefore, its first decade is from AD 1 to AD 10, the second decade from AD 11 to AD 20, and so on.[5] So, although "the 1960s" comprises the years 1960 to 1969, "the 197th decade" spans 1961 to 1970.
