The Game and The Miracle for me as their best 80s albums.....The Works and AKOM were the albums I played to death as a 13 - 15 yr old when they came out, and which really got me into Queen, but over the years I've listened to those less and less, and find the sonic qualities of both are pretty much the worst of their catalogue.

Interesting as after The Game which is my top 80s album my second favourite is The Works!
Kind of Magic was mainly tagged with the Highlander film and that made me feel it was not really a proper Queen effort for an album.
The Miracle had a few good tunes on it but i got bored of it after a while.

The Miracle brings me most joy when I listen to it, purely for nostalgic reasons. The only Queen album I listen to all the way through on a sunny day. 1989 4eva!

Same here - I was 17 when it came out and that was a great time, so it's special to me for nostalgic reasons!

Yes i can understand that certain albums reflects good times when that album got released, so its probably the same for me with "The Game" album but all the songs on that album are all brilliant and in my opinion it is Queen at there most creative best on any eighties album easily.
"Play the game" had a grand regal sound to it and "save me" was incredible with Brian's guitar playing on that track & Freddie's vocals were outstanding too.

The Miracle is 50/50 for me: On the one hand one of their best songs ever like "Was It All Worth It", "Scandal", "I Want It All" and "Breakthru" on the other hand utter garbage and some of their worst songs ever like "Rain Must Fall", "My Baby Does Me", "Party" and "Khashoggis Ship". Very patchy album for me. Their best 80's album is Hot Space - still like it as it was my first Queen album I bought back in 1982

Yea yea Yea, half of The Game was recorded in 79, but the album was released in 1980, so technically it's an 80's album...I agree with Happystar and others, The Game was their best of that decade. It had the monster hits and deeper cuts like Sail Away and Dragon Attack, Need Your Loving and Prime Jive. After that they lost it a bit...they were still able too come up with big hits, but the albums were lacking as a whole. The Miracle had some really good tunes, but some songs they sounded old and tired like the first 2 tracks.

Yeah i agree Mike The first 2 tracks from The Miracle album "Party" & "Khashoggis Ship" were truly awful tracks. I am sure they could have found something much better than that to open up the album.

I am one of those oddballs who think the Miracle is Queen's best 80's album. For me Khashoggi's Ship, The invisible Man, Breakthru, and Rain Must Fall are the best tracks on the album with Scandal being being my least favorite "meh" album track (but I like the 12" version of Scandal).

The Game is their best selling studio album in the US...so yes it's from a commercial POV. ANATO, not only cause it was their a big commercial succes worldwide, but it also has their flagship single Bo Rhap.

1) The Game

2) The Works

I can't decide which is better out of A Kind of Magic and The Miracle. So it might be a tie. I'm not sure. While A Kind of Magic has some very strong tracks (OV, AKOM, WWTLF, POTU), The Miracle - overall - I think is a better listen from start to finish.

Day drop: Personally if i had to choose between "The Miracle" or "A kind of Magic" i would surely choose "Magic" easily.
The Miracle lets itself down with "Party" & " Kashoggis Ship" which are dreadful tracks.
To think Queen had loads more material from "The Miracle" but discarded it for the tracks they picked out for the album!

I don't consider Kashoggis Ship to be dreadful. I like that track.
