I’m just confused as to how the Doin All Right recording is gonna function within the movie. They’re not gonna try and play it off as the audio of Smile playing in 68/69 are they? The recording itself couldn’t sound more modern and digital, and the voices are clearly those of sixty year old men. It’d come across completely absurd.

Really, why couldn’t they have used the Smile recording? Clean it up a bit, make a quasi stereo mix with EQ separation... the sound quality doesn’t need to be perfect if it’s meant to represent a live performance, and either way it’s a far preferable arrangement to this new one, so it’s gonna sound plenty better (and more accurate to the time) on the whole.

In fairness, it does seem a bit odd for Brian to try to improve DSMN. Firstly, it's Fred's song. Secondly, it does not need any additions: it's one of the UK's most popular songs. So it's like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa. And to do it in such a sloppy, messy way is unforgivable. The drums don't even sound like they're in time with the rest of the song, and the extra guitar adds nothing. Pointless noodling really.[/QUOTE]

Sure, fair enough.

But to attach ill-intent to it in the form of suggesting that they're trying to minimize Freddie's contributions (when the entire film is clearly about him) is just plain unnecessary.

Possibly. In a Classic Rock piece last month Brian said DSMN has been updated to reflect how they play it now. It's odd then if the film is about Fred that he would bother with this. I wonder if they had planned for some sort of Queen+AL moment at the film's end. Even the song suggests some kind of post-Fred triumphant return for Queen(+).

Judging by the tracklist (it clearly follows the film narrative - even with FBG out of place chronologically) after live aid I'm thinking a 'and the legend lived on...' DSMN sequence with us being brought right up to date featuring real footage up to 2018.

It would work I guess (like the AL bits in the NOTW film) but not convinced it's necessary. Borat did hint at the second half of the film dealing with how they overcame Freddie's death.

Remember when George Lucas "improved" the original Star Wars trilogy? Yeah.....
Roger: Can I go To Lunch Now? Brian: No, You Can't... --------------------------------------- Freddie: Oh Shit, All this crap again?! "If I had to do it all over again, yes why not? why not

The soundtrack is currently number four in the midweek charts:

I'm happy the Soundtrack is doing well in charts.
I'm sorry for the typo i copied earlier about Earl's Court (it could not be of course, Adam also agreed).

Of course i invite everybody not to give judgements before watching the movie.
I don't think there is any intention of reforming Smile, the work done in studio was just made in order to tell the prequeen era in the movie.
I'd like to add that Doing alright from Tim's album Amigo (featuring Brian) is certainly a good version of the song. What if they had used this version (adding/changing maybe some lines to let Roger sing)? After some more listening i can't complain with the new version, though.
About the fanfare, it's a matter of tastes. I love the way it was performed in the first track. There's never enough harmonizer (the chinese torture thing) for me! (and as i said, i would have made it even more solemn and pompous ;)
cheers!

But that version is drastically different musically from all the other versions

Thanks "biggest band"! Where are my AKG headphones!??

edit: not available (in my country, yet)

it's true, NastyQueenie, the version from Amigo is a slightly different approach, so (probably) it wouldn't fit in the 70s moment of movie. It was just an idea as i quite enjoy it!

I sure hope not.

If Lambert were mentioned in the film, they would've used a live version from last year.

Pretty sure the film ends after Live Aid.

I wonder if the real Queen come on at the end, like at the end of Yellow Submarine?
