A Day at the Races track "You & I" should have been a single?

When Queen released there fifth album " A Day at the Races" back in 1976 the first single to be cut was "Somebody to Love" which reached number 2 here in the UK then disaster happened for there second single they released "Tie your Mother Down" and although it is a great rock song it was not really "single" material for the general public at the time and only reached no 30 i think. That is where i suggest "You & I " should have been released instead of " Tie your Mother Down" it is very easy on the ears and makes for a great top five single and it is so underrated with Queen fans but in my opinion it is Queen gold. Easily recognisable as Queen with great vocals and guitar riffs, i am sure it would have become a smash back in 1976.
What do you ardent fans think of that then?

The Circle of Eidolon has read and broadly agree. However You and I, although a great song, features Brian May as vocalist and therefore wouldn't represent the whole band when listened to on the radio. Millionaire Waltz may have been a better choice and would have brought back memories, to the radio audiences of the time, of Bohemian Rhapsody with its changing styles and directions..

You & I does NOT feature Brian on vocals. Freddie was on vocals, silly boy.
You do not know your Queen history and for that you are a troll so fuck right off buddy.
I bet your a stupid glambert who knows fuck all about Queen history.

The Circle of Eidolon was going to apologise to you for mistaking You and I for Long Away.

After reading your reply and thoughts we regard you and your comments as worthless, meaningless drival from someone who sees their life as being central to all existence.

You should reflect on what you write and act on it if you believe civility is below you.

Twice you have taken this path when replying. Take this, read it and learn what it teaches you.

You & I is the best single Queen never released.

The circle of eidolon needs to learn some basic Queen History.
The track you mentioned "long way" is actually "Long Away" so that is your second mistake in a day.
As an Adam Lambert fan you need to snap out of this ridiculous obsession and buy a decent Queen book and discover the real Queen band and there incredible story because they are so much more enjoyable to listen too than any Queen+ trash that is around now.

Well put. I’ve always thought the same. It should have been released as a single in place of Long Away.

And Long Away could have been a hit if Freddie did vocals. Brian’s voice suits the song but Freddie’s appeals to the masses.

It was very similar with You my best friend, so TYMD was right choice. The first EP Good old fashioned lover boy was also great choice.
After 40 years seems that You and I could have been a great single but for its time it wouldn't have worked.

You And I should've been a single as it's a very good song and the perfect song for radio but I don't think it would've got a good reaction from the press because:

Somebody To Love sounds like Bohemian Rhapsody and they are both written by Freddie
You And I sounds like You're My Best Friend and they are both written by John

I think if they repeated releasing a Freddie song then a John song like they did with A Night At The Opera, it would've been seen as a rip off by press because they saw it produce successful results with the ANATO singles.

Plus it seems fair for Brian to have a single because arguably he seemed to work the hardest on that album especially the guitar orchestra on The Millionaire Waltz.

But I think that on the EP instead of Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy they should've had You And I so then it's one song each.

"You And I sounds like You're My Best Friend"

What?

"and they are both written by John"

The press give 2 shits about who wrote the song?

"it seems fair for Brian to have a single"

What?

Roger didn't have a single until the 80's. How unfair!!!!

"Long away" is a better song but still too weak for a single

The Circle of Eidolon knows more than you and we can make assertions without resorting to childish comments as you have previously.

You know not what or who you are commenting about.
