A Day at the Races track "You & I" should have been a single?

You may all mock "You and I" but it was as worthy as anything that was in the charts in 1976 and in my opinion it is a fantastic pop song and very radio friendly.

It's a great song and could've made a great single but it's probably the most "forgotten" song on A Day At The Races because:

- It was never performed live
- Not mentioned in any interviews by the group after 1977 in my recollection
- It doesn't appear on any compilation album (except The Singles Collection in 2009 as it was the B-Side for Tie Your Mother Down)

All the other songs on the album agree to at least one of these criteria.

You And I definitely deserves more recogniton.

Yes but lets not get "You & I" too popular cos we don't want that tool Lambert to start killing it, he has raped most of the Queen back catalogue as it is. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

As far as i know to my knowledge "Good old fashioned lover boy" made no 21 in my charts were we live. If it did make no 17 then great!

Well your knowledge (or best of it) is wrong, unless you are now NOT from the UK. If you are from the UK (and still live there) then it was #17. You silly boy.

Get some Queen books and learn your history. Stop addling your brains with Adam Lambert ;) :p

I think we might be suffering from the obscure song is better than well known song thing.

You & I could have been a success. Similar vein to yes You're my Best Friend and (I think) Killer Queen. Not quite as strong as either, but works perfectly on the album,

In the end we'll never know the single-success any song might have had.

The Millionaire Waltz is a sister to Bohemian Rhapsody. Not traditional single material, but had it been released, who is to say it might not have been big too? I also understand how with it's more classical and music hall influences it doesn't have the popular music appeal of Bo Rhap so would likely not have worked as a single, but you never know when it didn't happen.

I think ADATR is the one album with no weak tracks, so for me any track might have worked (though that doesn't mean they'd all work as singles) and I'd love any track to be loved by more people. :)

Actually Freddie said "Somebody to Love" was a better constructed song than "Bohemian Rhapsody"
But "You and I" is one of those classic sounding Queen songs that everybody adores, great harmonies and a very smart guitar slot in the middle making it
a typical gem! I love it.

Another name change. . . ,

Yeah that makes sense, you created a thread about the song, now you're worried about making it popular. On top of that you've resorted to using one of that idiot runner _70's quotes.

Yes I completely agree with you, it's probably why I like the album so much - there's no weak songs at all. I can listen to the album whenever and enjoy every minute of it.

I think I can only see half the album being released as a single as some don't sound as commercial successful though they are all worth bring publicised.

I'm not keen on ADATR tbh (and we've discussed this to death recently). It's a mid-tier album for me.

Vocal Harmony, you are always replying to people with allegedly multiple identities, and to posts from past threads, like a vengeful elephant with memory episodes. It's disrespectful to the rest of the participants.

Aren't you tired to live the same miserable days over and over again? I'm talking about the days when some idiot made outrageous attacks, and you smartly replied "Ha ha funny" (or something like that), as you don't care.
Apparently you care very much, considering the never ending reverberations. You became a certified stalker.
