Also, side question, does AL think that "Somebody to Love" was written with overtly sexual overtones? Because last night's performance made me think that he does.
What can you expect from that buffoon?

Okay, but back to the show last night: Does anyone know what the technical difficulty was that delayed them going on? Brian said something about circumstances "being so difficult".

Someone there said that because Queen use various things on their stage like the trap door etc it was taking longer than anticipated getting everything set up and working but not sure if that's the case or just someone's theory.
As to Adam he's looked into all the songs and meanings as far as he could without Freddie being there to ask but he's not an imitator so he interprets the songs from his own perspective and also that's just the kind of performer he is, he's not literally interpreting everything some of it's just having fun and maybe he wasn't thinking about the fact it was being televised and just did what he would in their usual shows.

The only thing that puts me off is the rap hand gestures. Seems a bit silly. The cabaret voice works on bits of it so it's all pros and cons. I'm glad he's toned down the Gary Glitter platforms and shoulder pads.
Perhaps that's why they have 2 drummers. Glitter Band vibe.

They use a second drummer because Roger can't play like he used to and he's going slightly deaf, the fuller sound it's an excuse.
It ain't 1977 anymore, but he sure is doing better than guys like Alan White these days. These guys are in their 70s and well past retirement age. We should be so lucky they're on the road at all, giving up time with their grandkids so that people can enjoy a show for two hours.
Rog is playing just fine. Better than the Paul Rodgers era for sure. The tempos are good, and his chops are in great shape. Listen to the fill part way through the first solo in I Want It All - just spotless.

As for the rest of the complaints in the various threads here...
No, they're not playing to tracks. It was clearly a delay issue with the broadcast, and it was sorted out within seconds. Props to the tech team - the pressure these guys are under in such circumstances is monumental. Some of you forum troglodytes know so little about music, yet are so quick to assume the worst about musicians that you apparently love (or once loved).
Like it or not, this band sounds polished and professional, despite having still not yet pulled off a resurrection. Apart from U2, every band that goes back to the 70s has had membership changes. DEAL WITH IT.
Queen are the biggest band in the world right now despite having not been a creative force for nearly three decades. And shows like this are only cementing that reality, not somehow inhibiting it. Spending hours upon hours of your spare time trying to convince people otherwise says a whole lot more about you than it does about them.

Not to be irritating, but ... I am still curious.
How do we know for sure it was just the broadcast causing the echo if nobody from here was there and we don’t know what Brian meant by “the difficulties”?
I know they are playing live (and I’ve been to many shows), but I also know that they use recordings as part of the show: Freddie’s appearance at the end of Love of My Life, and the operatic section of Bohemian Rhapsody and they somehow accomplish this perfectly. So when the echo mishap occurred I assumed that it had something to do with a recording that was set in motion at its normal time (to enhance the sound?) and that Adam’s delay with his vocals caused the “situation”, and then the band kept playing what they were playing because they couldn’t stop at that point. I’m not saying my theory is correct, but just that when it happened, that is what I thought might be happening.
I’m completely ignorant of sound systems and broadcasting, but when it happened, I felt anxious for them. I was at the DC show when all sound was lost during Fat Bottomed Girls and they just kept playing until it was fixed. I’m just glad it is not me up there - under pressure. Ha.
I thought it was a great performance. There is no way Roger will retire. He is a rock star. He needs to perform. Same with Brian. There is enough quality time for grandchildren and going on stage. And besides, their family members must get a kick out of seeing them perform. We are so very lucky to get to see them on stage.

It looked to me like they were having trouble with the hi-hat on the drum kit. Roger's drum technician was crouched next to it for the whole show, looked like he was holding one of the tripod legs in place, it was pretty wobbly.
(But maybe this is normal and it was just noticeable because of all the close-up camera angles?)

On the "Roger's kit problem" point this is NOT their usual stage. For example, no runway. So maybe his riser had to be smaller than usual and the hi-hat kept moving to the edge of it.

Roger generally plays better when a man in shorts is rubbing his crotch on his cymbal stands. Now they just hire a guy to do that.

In the old days Crystal would always clear up any of Roger's droppings during the show. Nowadays his mess just gets hurled into the stage fan.

Roger’s drum tec will always be just down to his left on all shows - nothing unusual about this (unless he was having to hold the hi hat stand), but he would be there anyway.

He always sits next to the drums - http://youtu.be/rc2AuAXl5lI?list=RDrc2AuAXl5lI&t=349

And I‘m always wondering: What is he doing there?
As much as I like Roger, I don’t want THAT job....

What is he doing down there? I was at a show a few months back where Roger's monitor popped out of his ear and he was in there right away to stick it back in, but I wasn't sitting at an angle to notice if he was *right* there or not.
He looked much closer at Global Citizen than he does in the video, but I guess that's just the confined set up of the kit.

Hey i can answer on the "difficulties" as I was there on Saturday. On Don't Stop Me now, the sound started going in and out and at one point it did look like Adam was lip syncing although I think it also may have been a delay issue. It just started to look bizarre as they seemed to be at different points in the song and the audience was confused. The concert in general was running very late and by the time Queen's set was about to start, the stage was not ready (they announced Rami Malek to introduce them but instead played Global Citizen videos they had already played for another 20 min). My guess is there was pressure to start when the sound wasn't 100% ready and it showed. However, after DSMN, they seemed to get it together. But overall, good set.
