the use of the quote function serves obvious purposes that help and assist others:
1. there's absolutely clarity as to what/who a reply is aimed toward
2. it removes the possibility of a post being later edited for disingenuous reasons
3. it saves people time with having to look back at several posts to gain a full context - a handful of quoted posts is easier to follow than 10-15 unquoted replies.
subjects are call "threads" for a reason. quotes help to maintain that thread.
