I'm going to see the Darkness 3/31 at Club Laga in Pittsburgh PA....
I'd like to hear them do the fast version of WWRY, it's more like their own stuff rather than STL

I remember back in 1996 I think some band called The Braids tried to make a hip-hop cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, anyone remember it?...darn that was horrible!! Thank goodness that was the first and last time I've heard of them. I remember record stores were putting the single of the cover with the Queen records, which was quite infuriating for any Queen fan!

Sorry Adam I'm feeling a little stupid now because I don't think you quite understand what I mean! Some covers are poor because they try too hard to sound like the original I'm sure you will know what I mean now so really what is the point of doing the cover!

Oh, I see. So if it sounds the same as the original did, it's a waste? Uh hu. So if that's what I like doing, I must be wasting my time?
You know, sometimes it makes them happy to do the song like that. You know what I don't like? I don't like it when you're expected to reinvent the wheel with a cover.
It should be done because you either like it and want to reproduce it. Or perhaps you have the idea of rearranging it. But it's a little short-sighted to 'expect' it to be different.
Peace,
Adam.

i like the darkness, buti have to admit, i thought they were ripping off queen when i first saw the video. but now i think that the darkness is a big welcome note i n a chart of songs sung by people chosen soely for their dancing talents!
if a band with a few 'queenisms' brings back a well needed dose of rock to the industry, i say bring it on!

The first Queen album was no gem.
I prefer The Darkness CD over the first Queen album.

The Darkness is a very talented band and if they are to do ANY covers of Queen, I support them. In today's music, rock is written to depress and be heavy. And all they do is bring us back to when rock was fun and it could be about good times. In fact, the lead singer got in the band when they heard him do Bohemian Rhapsody on karaeoke one night. If they do a Queen song and they do it well - then alright! More power to them!

I'm a DJ and so every once in awhile I have to force myself to listen to Top 40 radio. A rock song came on that sounded more sophisticated than the other crap...and it ended up being The Darkness.
There was just something about it...you could tell that they had been exposed to more sophisticated music than the other artists who grew up on '90s radio.
I downloaded the video for I Believe In A Thing Called Love from WinMX and the lead singer reminds me of Freddie :) I might have to start showing this back-to-back with Crazy Little Thing Called Love at the video bar I work at ;)
Also my mom told me tonight that she just heard their version of "Somebody To Love" in an ad for a some new movie here in the US....

I could live with the Darkness covering STL. I love them!
And queen songs have already been covered by idiots like Robbie, Five, Britney & co anyway. that sucked. but the Darkness are nothing like them. if somebody should do a cover of a queen song, I'd want it to be the Darkness.
so I guess I wouldn't hate it.

LOL
And as much as I hate them, The Darkness aren't immitating Queen. They're nothing different then any 70's glam or 80's hair metal bands. So it's nothing new, and they didn't steal anything from Queen. (Except maybe 50% of the name of a Queen song)

i think The Darkness are great!! So much better than any of the music you hear these days...
