Here's the deal.
Objectively, I personally do NOT like Coldplay's music and do find it rather cliched, repetitive, and rather than being influenced by U2, they sound like they are trying to COPY U2 (and badly at that). I do think they need to show stronger songwriting skills and I do not find them anything special.
....Now as for Roger's statement.
1) Roger is allowed to be objective and give his own personal opinion of another music artist without being disrespected by the reporter for ''being jealous'', for having ''sour grapes'' or having Queen dissed for being ''a has been band''...''not having recent hits'', or Roger being dissed as having ''bad judgment disliking Britain's most popular current band''.
2) However....people of QZ...YOU fail to see yourselves as a mirror relection of this idiot reporter who disrespected Roger and Queen, just for Roger expressing his honest artistic taste and opinion for not liking Coldplay.
....How many of you, jumped all over Robert Smith of The Cure when he said he wasn't a fan of Queen and didn't like their music?

As long as the real reason you don't like a band's music is valid and it does not appeal to your taste (and not some agenda like jealousy)...FINE.
My friends love music I HATE. I Love music my Friends HATE. There are artists/bands BOTH me and my Friends Love, or Both me and my Friends HATE.

And excuse me, but Roger openly PRAISES TONS of NEW current BIG RECORD SELLING UK and USA artists like...Razorlight, The Darkness, and The Foo Fighters.
So Roger and Queen have no problem praising New Big record selling artists. So obviously Roger just does not like Coldplay's music...Which he is entitled to his opinion.

The Daily Star newspaper has reported that Roger Taylor has told Virgin Radio how he doesn't like Coldplay. Roger said 'all their songs sound the same', which they do by the way, and the writer of this report deemed that comment ''frankly absurd''.
He went on to say ''I know Queen's heyday passed some 20 years ago but there's no need for those kind of sour grapes''.
He then said ''Old Rog really needs his head re-wired if he thinks having a pop at Britain's best loved band is sensible''.
He finished his article by saying ''I know who I would rather see in a muddy field in Somerset tonight - and it isn't Queen''.
So he is obviously an idiot...

Arlene, I mostly agree with you, but I don't think Roger should be publically dissing other bands. Music is art, and art is subject to one's tastes. Art is about uniting people. If you don't like a certain type of art, then don't complain about it; be positive, and focus on art that makes you happy.
I have to agree with the interviewer. Roger may be blunt, but when you're in a popular band, you cannot build a reputation for disliking others. That's why Brian has a 10x better reputation than Roger. Brian is diplomatic. Unfortunately, complete honesty is not what people want to hear, because such honesty tends to lead to negativity.

I agree that Coldplay are shit. But I have never really felt the urge to shout it on a message board, 'til now. I have reported that someone in the Daily Star reported Roger's outburst, and he made it sound as if Roger was jealous of Coldplay. Why would he be? He's got more money than them, Queen are more famous worldwide than Coldplay, he is a better drummer than thier drummer and he is a better singer than any of them. If old Chris had died and Coldplay went on tour, they wouldn't be able to play 50,000 seat stadiums.

To be honest i don`t like Coldplay that much, because i think they have choosen a really good name for their music- Cold Play. It doesn`t turn me on but i wish them all the best.
I don`t think that people should allways have that socially correct atittude. I mean, if Roger gave is opinion without desrespect the band, then i think its fine, and knowing Roger i think that`s what happened. And its not a crime to say that he`s not into their music.
Everybody (other musicians) gave their opinion about Queen and sometimes it wasn`t that good either. This year Robert Smith gave an interview to a Portuguese journal and he was desrespectfull to Queen.
And to be honest that`s one of Brian qualities that i deslike, because you never get to know his really opinion about nothing because he`s too polite. I think that we should be truthfull without desrespect other people feelings!
Of course if the members of Coldplay were Queen fans i now that they must have feel sad with his opinion, but to bring something like this and make an article for others to read...oh my...
I would love to ear the exact sentence of what Roger said!
