One thing you're forgetting- the albums you mentioned indeed sold extremely well, but... they are STUDIO albums, not live ones.
I'm not forgetting it. Why should we separate whether an album is a studio album, live album, or a live in studio album?

The fact is that this live album is the only thing Peter, Paul and Mary (or whatever those guys are called... :P ) have released together, and there is a correlation between how much people like them, and how many records they sell.
I could agree with you to some extent, but it's not as black and white... This album ISN'T the best live work i've ever heard. But it IS good. In fact it's one of the better CDs I bought this year (among Dream Theater's "Octavarium" or System Of A Down's "Mezmerize"). General public didn't buy it? Do you think Queen's Boxed Set will sell in huge quantity?
Of course it's not black and white... That's what I am getting at.
Some people will look at the charts and think "15,000 sold records and #12 in the charts. That's pretty good for a live album."
I'll look at the same figures and think "That's pretty lousy for the only recording this band has to show. Doesn't the audience want to hear them anymore?"
It's all about how we choose to interpret the same things.
General public prefers to buy crap like "The Way To Amarillo" or "Crazy frog"- I really don't care how high an album charts- when I like it, i like it... People now buy a lot of terrible shit, so if they don't want to buy Q+PR live album... I don't care, doesn't prove it's not good IMO...
I can wholeheartedly agree that the charts don't tell a thing about what is good or not. What I do care about is the amount of sales, because there is (again) a correlation between the amount of sold records and the amount of people who actually enjoy the album.

I don't know about other people, but I find it a very worrying sign of their popularity if only one quarter of the Hyde Park audience buys the record.

Of course, we don't really know how succesful it is until we know how long it will stay in the charts... I suppose it's realistic to expect half of the audience to eventually buy it, so it will at least reach the silver status. :/

and as I said before it only entered in 12 place so still has a lot to clim...!!!!
Nowadays, the debut position on the first week it's the best. It will plummet to hell during the second week, just like the Stones (2-13-32) and Macca (10-34)
I'll be surprised with another week in the Top 40.

Live At The Bowl entered at #20 in the UK charts and disappeared from the Top 40 the following week.

I am quite sure that there are other examples around of the contrary
Yes. I would like to see BPP go out on a stage in front of god knows how many people saw Q+PR (YES - it has Queen in the name you fool) at Sheffield, and say to them 'these guys are talentless hacks and they suck'.
I would love to see the reception he'd get then.
So what if their frickin' CD is selling at no. 12? How is YOUR latest single coming in, mate?
Roger Taylor remains an inimitable drummer. Brian May still manages to find the odd new thing to do with his guitar parts. Paul Rogers is, to me, not anything nearly as good as Freddie - but heck, when I want to hear Freddie I put him on the stereo. And when I want to hear something different? I buy no. 12 (which is, by the way, my favourite number).

You just can't stand to let people enjoy themselves can you? Is it so hard to just let people have their fun? I actually understand your viewpoint, but it's not something worth fighting over.

I have a similar dislike of Robbie Williams, I just think he's hopeless in every respect. But at the end of the day, people enjoy themselves at his shows, and not much I say will change that.

So, I dunno BPP, and all your bloody offsiders... just live and let live dudes.

If the Champions had returned shouldn't it be at No 1 ?

Even Daniel O'Donnell (Blue Rinse Brigade Favourite) and Barbara Streisand ( her with the massive nose to rival Barry Manilow (are they related ?) managed 10th and 3rd respectively.

This is EVEN after English Yob ordered 500 copies of ROTC to inflate the figures.

For those who bought it at full price will be regretting it as you will be able to buy it next month in a Bargain Bin at your nearest HMV.
and I’ve sent them all to your cop shop for your attention cos i know your a massive QPR fan.

But number 12 is quite good for a chart that is dominated by pop/rock band wannabes who have the record companies throwing money at them and promotion. Come just admit it you love it really your doing this for the attention now
[QUOTENAME]Jimi wrote: [/QUOTENAME]Firstly the 150k of people that went to the tour were not one time attendees. It would be interesting(although impossible ) to know how many different people went. I was at 4 indoor and one outdoor. I've got one copy of the album of course! Most folks attend with partners now due to the age range so thats one copy in two!

I still think 12 is a little disappointing and if they're honest , which i doubt they will be, the band should be too.
I don't think there were THAT many people who saw several concerts. :P
Even if there were 1,000 of the same people at every concert, it wouldn't register when rounding the total audience to 150k.

Your second point however is one that I hadn't even thought about (since I go to concerts by myself). That would of course mean that in a few years time virtually every household that saw the concert (all 70,000 of them) will probably have the album... And that amount is surely a disappointment for everyone who wants to see this album as the reneissance of Queen.

And just in case somebody is still wondering...
Yes, I travelled to another country to see the QPR show.
Yes, I bought the live album on the day of release.
No, I still haven't listened to it all the way through.
I just don't like the cd, and I'm not going to recommend anyone to buy it.
If it was phlEghMINEM or Kanye West then they'd have staying power. Rap is now a caricature of itself. Jay-Z is a fake gangsta. Rap died after 2Pac and BIG died. Kanye West is a racist as he degraded white artists more than once. He degraded Gretchen Wilson(a white country singer) for winning the American Music Award for Best New Artist and cried race card. He then degraded Dick Clark and the award committee for being biased towards white people. He then whined about losing a Best New Artist Grammy. Then he whined about how the media is portraying black people in the media after the tragic Hurricane Katrina. Not all black people are bad, there are just some bad apples is all. Music buyers today are naive sheep whom are told by big brother eMptyTV what to listen to and what is hip. Music is dead IMHO!

BPP needs to go to a mental asylum. He can't accept that a legend like Paul Rodgers is with Queen instead of that moron Robbie Williams whom is basically despised in the US and George Michael whom was an 80s teen sensation whom fell from GRACE big time!

Highest chart positions of Queen's live albums:

Live Killers #3
Live Magic #3
Live At Wembley #2
On Fire #6

LK peaked at #16 in the US
LM wasn't released in the US until 1996 and didn't chart
LaW hit #52 in the US and sank
On Fire didn't chart
ROTC debuted at #84

ROTC is the third highest charting live effort from Queen.

There are albums that are (apparently) good, and also sell very well. All those classic albums like "Rumours", "Dark Side of the Moon", "A Night at the Opera"...

Now, if the latest Bri+Rog live album was really as great as you could imagine by reading the dozens of rave reviews on this message board, then surely the album would have sold better?

Apparently there was some 150,000 tickets sold in the UK, yet only a fraction of those persons have bought the album. I might be interpreting it in a bit more pessimistic way than you, but to me that sounds like the general public who WERE in the concerts didn't like it that much!
One thing you're forgetting- the albums you mentioned indeed sold extremely well, but... they are STUDIO albums, not live ones. Give me ONE live album that sold anywhere near Dark side Of The moon or The Wall... It's acompletely different thing to go on a gig and to buy a live CD- not everyone at those gigs was a band fan- there are many people who go to many gigs and won't necesairly buy a live album from every one of them... I could agree with you to some extent, but it's not as black and white... This album ISN'T the best live work i've ever heard. But it IS good. Best albums of 2005 are
1)The Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang
2)Queen + Paul Rodgers - Return of the Champions
3)Genesis Platinum Collection(which came out in the US on the same day as ROTC)
4)Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution

Now I just have to wait for ANAtO and Pink Floyd's WYWH 30th Anniversary edition sets.

How many other albums from 2005 have you actually listened to from beginning to end? And you really can't count two of those selections, because they're not really new music. I suggest you pick up Dream Theater's "Octavarium" and System's "Mezmerize". But really, there aren't many good "albums" to choose from these days, because it's all about singles, as opposed to albums. There aren't many album bands anymore. Whatever happened to the Floyds, Zeppelins, Genesis', and Whos of the past?

System of A Down sucks! Dream Theater I only liked Images and Words. Haven't heard the rest of their stuff. Because of eMptyTV and such we are back to the 1940s/50s/60s singles concept. Album rock is a dying breed. The Who is working on an album, David Gilmour and Roger Waters' solo discs are due for release next year. Led Zeppelin is gone. Genesis folded after Calling All Stations tanked! Nowadays, I am going more into classical music and weaning away from rock and roll. Give me Bach, Mozart and Beethoven over Prisstina Aquafina!

I am so disillusioned with today's music that I am now going to classical music and even opera. Linkin Park, Coldplay and so forth can go to Hell! Rap is a caricature of itself and more phonies come out every year. Even the teen pop queen Bratney Sneers' career is over. Her last two records TANKED and her firing her manager put the nail in the coffin for her career especially after marrying the freeloader dancer she stole from a pregnant woman!
The sad fact is no one buys records nor go to the movies anymore nor go buy fast food. Reality TV, healthy living and violent video games are what is in! If life will be that way, I might as well just commit suicide!

"On Fire - Live at the Bowl" debuted and peaked at #20 in the UK, which means that Queen + Paul Rodgers live did 8 slots better on the chart than Queen + Freddie Mercury live. And as has been pointed out elsewhere in the thread, ROTC debuted at #84 in the US whereas "On Fire" didn't sell enough copies to even chart on the Top 200.

ROTC, both the album and the tour, is absolutely and quantifiably a success. The numbers alone tell the story, to say nothing of the overwhelmingly positive critical reviews and the thousands and thousands and thousands of happy and satisfied concert attendees. End of discussion.

The poodle and his bitch should really find the deepest hole they can, crawl inside, and die. They bring nothing to this board but trolly tedium. So, GO AWAY!
