Are you retarded? Do I need to repeat that it was not Dan Brown who came up with the theory (Dan Brown is an incredibly obtuse bread-writer), but two SERIOUS SCHOLARS, who have quite a point and present rather interesting and convincing evidence?
This is the exact same bullshit as those who criticize the Harry Potter books for using creatures, potions, spells, and other elements of previously written stories of wizardry. J K Rowling just took those same elements and put them on a story of her own.

Once again who gives a shit? It's all fiction.

It's been a long time, but I actually agree with you here.

However, there's no such person as Jesus. You'll be interested to hear that there were supposedly a great many people who did what Jesus did, made the same claim he did, etc.

Apollonius and Simon Magus are just two of the more well-known candidates.

So, in other words: Jesus is a combination of several people's acts and ideas, combined by a group of dissident Jews we now know as the Apostles.
- you need to separate fact from theory....Jesus DId exist...it's just on what capacity
after all, two OTHER (non chorstian) religions recognise him as exisiting and being crucified...and Islam recognises himas a prophet in their beliefs
Jesus is not recognized as a historical person, as opposed to for instance Muhammed. The earliest 'evidence' of his existance dates to half a century after his supposed death. This makes him a mythical figure, and not a historical one.

The point I'm making here is that several people were combined into a single entity and called 'Jesus Christ' by a Jewish sect later called Christianity.
Dude. I'm an atheist, my father is a university graduate of theology and a former professor of comparative religious studies (New York State, don't recall which one, I'll ask him and post it here if you wish), I have picked up a fair bit from him and am studying ancient Hebrew (pretty much the only source of this: biblical texts and commentaries on them), and have been helping a friend of mine who is currently in his third year of university on several subjects relating to Christianity for nearly two years now.
You just reminded me, when my uncle went to DC to protest the removal of the 10 Commandmets, a guy had a sign that said "Hi Mom! Im an Atheist!"

Thanks, I love that picture

Thomas, whilst you presented your argument well it IS incorrect to STATE that Jesus DIDN'T exist, or at least it cannot be proven he didn't.

Just as it cannot be proven he did, as you correctly point out most of the written text staems from at least 40 years after his suposed death, so we will never be able to prove it either way.

I enjoyed your posts but you cannot start buy stating he didn't exist, we simply don't and will never know if there was such a person, or persons claiming to be him.
"It is better to sit in silence and have people think you're a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt"
Jesus does exist.

Haven't you guys watched his talk show 'Jesus & Pals'?

I read this article in a science magazine.. They have a theory, that Jesus was an evil child.
Made other kids die, with the power he later on used to heal with.. Souds wicked to me :p
O_o
I think Jesus did exist, but wasn't the Son of God, and the whole thing is just a fabrication. Therefore, to me, it's more than possible that he was married & had kids. :)

You cant prove that something doesnt exist, you can only show that it does.

Exactly how we got so many commies.

When it comes to BULLSHIT...BIG-TIME, MAJOR LEAGUE BULLSHIT... you have to stand IN AWE, IN AWE of the all time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion.

Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it, religion has actually convinced people that there's an INVISIBLE MAN...LIVING IN THE SKY...who watches every thing you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten special things that he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish where he will send to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry for ever and ever 'til the end of time...but he loves you.

I want you to know, when it comes to believing in god- I really tried. I really really tried. I tried to believe that there is a god who created each one of us in his own image and likeness, loves us very much and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize...something is FUCKED-UP. Something is WRONG here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is NOT good work. If this is the best god can do, I am NOT impressed. Results like these do not belong on the resume of a supreme being. This is the kind of shit you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently run universe, this guy would have been out on his all-powerful-ass a long time ago.

Trillions and trillions of prayers every day asking and begging and pleading for favors. 'Do this' 'Gimme that' 'I want a new car' 'I want a better job'. And most of this praying takes place on Sunday. And I say fine, pray for anything you want. Pray for anything. But...what about the divine plan? Remember that? The divine plan. Long time ago god made a divine plan. Gave it a lot of thought. Decided it was a good plan. Put it into practice. And for billion and billions of years the divine plan has been doing just fine. Now you come along and pray for something. Well, suppose the thing you want isn't in god's divine plan. What do you want him to do? Change his plan? Just for you? Doesn't it seem a little arrogant? It's a divine plan. What's the use of being god if every run-down schmuck with a two dollar prayer book can come along and fuck up your plan? And here's something else, another problem you might have; suppose your prayers aren't answered. What do you say? 'Well it's god's will. God's will be done.' Fine, but if it gods will and he's going to do whatever he wants to anyway; why the fuck bother praying in the first place? Seems like a big waste of time to me. Couldn't you just skip the praying part and get right to his will?

You know who I pray to? Joe Pesci. Two reasons; first of all, I think he's a good actor. Ok. To me, that counts. Second; he looks like a guy who can get things done. Joe Pesci doesn't fuck around. Doesn't fuck around. In fact, Joe Pesci came through on a couple of things that god was having trouble with. For years I asked god to do something about my noisy neighbor with the barking dog. Joe Pesci straightened that cock-sucker out with one visit.

I noticed that of all the prayers I used to offer to god, and all the prayers that I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answer at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want. Half the time I don't. Same as god 50/50. Same as the four leaf clover, the horse shoe, the rabbit's foot, and the wishing well. Same as the mojo man. Same as the voodoo lady who tells your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles. It's all the same; 50/50. So just pick your superstitions, sit back, make a wish and enjoy yourself. And for those of you that look to the Bible for it's literary qualities and moral lessons; I got a couple other s

LOL

George Carlin is awesome. I'm a christian and I find his stand up act hilarious. You don't have to believe everything he says, and you don't even have to TRY NOT TO because the man is quite simply not wishing to shove his ideas down your throat, but he makes you think.
