Apologies for quoting outside of the context, but...
I think that this is what it all comes down to. To quote one of my all-time favourite movies: "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few... or the one!"
Perhaps, if QPL want a recording of the "Hangman" acetate, they would agree to pay Mr. Stuart's expenses for recording and mastering at an independent studio. I don't know... some arrangement must be made. This track (if it is indeed unique) is too important to be left out of the anthology.
Bottom line (and I must quote another movie): "Sometimes we must let go of our pride and do what is requested of us."

"Well all hidden/lost gems should !! come on all you collectors come on GB come on all queenfans let us show the great queen spirit & help those people who sit on the important stuff to make peace so we all can be winners."
But if the collectors would provide the "gems" - would QP release them? or would they tell us that the recordings don't meet the quality standard? I think it's unrealistic to believe that Queen, the fans and the collectors are all in the same boat. Just recently a fan asked Brian if he can use some soap box entries for a book he is writing. I think the issue was how Hammer To Fall was recorded in the studio. The answer was no - because Brian did not want to "compromise" some possible future projects. So much for the niceness and the generosity of Brian. If a collector paid thousands for a recording - does he really owe the other fans? And if Queen are offered recordings and don't bother to buy them but a collector buys them - whose responsibility is that?
I do understand the position of Queen, too - they want to have control over the release of their own music and it's obvious that if they don't find a recording fit for release, we will never hear it, they have every right to do that. And as long as they sell millions of Greatest Hits variations they will probably never release the anthology because that would be something like the "final chapter". This conflict cannot be solved and each leaked "gem" will be celebrated by the fans and hated by the band.

Aah! So that's why Brian just makes up a story about Mary was the name (of his latest flame)?! ;-)

I think Brian was angry about the leaked demo because it is so unfinished, no guitar and certainly not the final vocal version. (Btw, I love it!!) He just assumed it was stolen when apparently the Cozy Powell Estate sold Cozy's personal tapes and the Japanese bootlegger who bought them releases these tapes by and by . There are also 3 CDs with rehearsals from the BTTL tour which are swapped among the collectors.
Again, I really understand both sides: Brian hates it that an unfinished, unpolished demo escapes to the public (with no royalties paid, either!) while the collectors are delighted to hear it.

Here's an idea: If he hates it so much he should finish it! :)
...and release it as a Queen song!

Yes, I understand, but that is not reason to MAKE UP a story that is not the truth about the origins of this track!
Besides: These tapes, at the time, were GIVEN to some other musicians that were to appear on other tracks on COZY's album; to listen to them so they knew what kind of atmosphere Cozy's total album would have. The album that never materialised because Cozy first went to Sabbath and then got an accident.
Anyway... I'm drifting off topic again...

I feel that if QP got their hands on anything rare that the following would happen:
1) The complete thing will never see the light of day
2) They will release extracts from it

Indeed.
More gems are out there, really. The first show in Holland, Hague 1974, was also filmed by a member of the audience. But if someone shows that to Brian, Greg or QP in common, it will never see the light of day. They will keep if for themselves, I'm sure about that.

You know, Greg IS very right when he says that there are SO many Queenfans out there that have a WAY too wild imagination! Nuff said.
Yeah, it's out there. I have the master.
Realy? Can I see it?
I don't have it here.
Where is it then?
Somewhere in my storage bunker, far away somewhere in Germany.
Could you look it up?
No, I don't feel like going to Germany and search for it. Too much stuff.
I will look for ya, just tell me where the bunker is!
Nah, I don't know where the key is.
Yeah, it's out there. I have the master.

I don't mean the story of sir Asselbergs, but I mean the story of Jay. Maybe he could tell us more about that. He told this some time ago...

How about answering same of the man's doubts?
Taking him to the archive?
Offer him same rare stuff to compensate his loss?
Ask him what could be done to ease him?
The list goes on and on...

Well, I've heard exactly the same story from himself, yes. About this German guy. Who filmed many more bands, like the Stones and David Bowie. But they are just stories, no proof at all!
