i think europe is a far more tolerating society, and appreciate good music far more than americans.
it doesnt affect me if america doesnt like queen (even though a lot of americans do). ppl on this site and obsessed fans try to spread musi of a band like spreading a religion - ppl shud be happy that they've found it themselves and casually mention it to others.
queen will be remembered forever cos of 3 songs - no other band will really have that claim.

I'd bet if Freddie was alive and it had just been that long since touring the USA, they still wouldn't sell out every show.

I'm an American, and my biggest complaint has always been that America in general doesn't think that good music can come from anywhere but here. It's like they think that we dominate the industry, music and hollywood and otherwise. You never hear about anyone from anywhere else, unless everyone else in the whole world knows about them first. Then America begrudgingly lets them in, but the minute that they release something that mainstream listeners don't like, they get dropped like a hot potato.
You have to actually look most of the time for stuff that comes from Britian or anywhere else. I happen to like British Rock, but I like my share of American stuff too. I just wish that more of us were more open to the British stuff, and did less glorifying of our claims to fame, because most of them weren't that good (Elvis? OK...good singer, good dancer, but he stole everything he did from others).

Though this year marks what would have been Freddie's 60th birthday, it also marks the first anniversary of the Katrina disaster, as well as the fifth anniversary of 9/11. I think that being American and loving Queen, you just have to create your own little universe where Queen rules.
I do wish some of you kids would buy more than just the greatest hits collections when possible. Getting the stuff free is fine at first.. but it's supposed to make you want the real thing. Queen's original albums have fantastic and interesting artwork, photos, lyrics. There's always been something special about putting on a Queen album, holding the case/sleeve and taking it all in....
Anyway, here in my universe I'm all very happy with the latest news that the new 2-CD Freddie collection has just shipped from Japan :) They get their CDs a little early there.. Aug. 30th. However their DVD set is way late with a release date of November 15.
Soon the UK DVD and book will be shipping as well..

there was quite a bit stuff going on around the 25th anniversary of john lennon's death. although culturally speaking, that's a more significant event.
the first anniversary of the london bombings just passed, but that hasn't stopped queen from throwing a large bash. i suppose you could argue that it should, but i kind of think music is a good way to deal with tragedy...
i suppose what it all boils down to is that there is just not enough interest in the US. oh well. tis a pity.

You guys are crazy. Just tune in to your local classic rock station. I will guarantee that every one of them will run a Queen marathon either on his birthday, death day, or even both. It would be stupid to expect these dates to be commemorated as if they were national holidays. You have to realize that not only is everyone not a Queen fan, but there is a large amount of people who are not MUSIC fans altogether.
