We've now got "Sir" Bono and he's not even British so the whole thing is a farce.

Wrong. He can't be known as SIR. It was on the news. But hey, that guy does lots of things, so why not. But he will not be known as sir because of his non-british side.

Adam.
I already call Brian "Sir Brian", and I do so merely because he's a great guitar player and it suits him. The rest of the whole knighthood thing is 'fluff' anyway.

Guh don't get all moral. Regardless the reasons, they've still done more than we have. To say nothing of the anonymous donations Freddie used to make. You can't claim moral high ground here, so don't :P
5 people have signed the petition so far!
What's the matter with the people at Queenzone? I thought you lot were Queen fans!
Come on, sign the petition, and let's get our Brian the recognition he deserves.

Nobody signed it, because online petitions are useless. And knighthood is a silly practise.
Even when Brian is angry or upset about something, he still comes off as a very gentle person. I just get the feeling he doesn't understand how amazing (and rare) he is. I think he should qualify for protected status, rather than a silly title. Ha.

How does that diminish what they've done for AIDS charities? Are all the concerts they've organized and the millions they've donated somehow less genuine because they had a personal reason to do so?

I really don't know why I bothered!

This was just supposed to be a fun thing, yet with a few exceptions , all you so-called Queen fans can do is spread negative vibes.

I'm sure Brian would be chuffed to bits if he was to be given a knighthood.

Brian has, through his music, given all of us so much pleasure and enjoyment over the last 30 odd years, not to mention all the amazing charity work he has done, not only within the band, but on a personal level aswell. Isn't it time we all tried to give something back?
I can't think of anything simpler than to take 2 minutes to go over to the homepage and sign the petition.
As stated, KNIGHTHOOD IS A RIDICULOUS FARCE.

I'm sure a person like Brian is much happier about a Ph.D. than he would ever be about an OBE or CBE.

And quite honestly, if I were nominated for a knighthood (or the Dutch equivalent), I'd fucking well refuse (that would be nice here in Holland, seeing as they don't inform you beforehand. They come to fetch you for your knighting, and you blatantly tell them "I'm not interested. Now fuck off.").

Just thought you (ThomasQuinn) might like to read what Brian said about receiving his CBE last year:

May, who is appointed CBE, said: "I feel very grateful for the recognition. It is not something I have ever sought. The first thing that comes into your head is that you wish your mum and dad were there to enjoy it. But I am happy that my wife and kids will be able to enjoy it too."

Here is how his award was motivated:

"C.B.E.
To be Ordinary Commander(s) of the Civil Division of the said Most Excellent Order:
MAY, Dr. Brian, Composer, Guitarist and Singer. For services to the Music Industry."

Brian has worked very hard for, and given his patronage to, a large number of charitable causes over the years - really making a difference - these include, among many, The Mercury Phoenix Trust, The British Bone Marrow Donor Association, Nelson Mandela's 46664 appeal, The Connor Ruscoe Memorial Fund, and many more.

So maybe he wouldn't mind a knighthood after all, he certainly has deserved it.

have they? - it's all relative is 1% of Brian's earnings any bigger than 1% of yours? - no it isn't...
you CAN'T say anything of Freddie's anonymous donations...they were anonymous...hence we don't know what they were
and yes i can claim moral high ground
Queen more or less snubbed bandaid...and Geldof had to more or less coerce them into liveaid wasn't the quote "tell the old fag it's gonna be the biggest gig in the world, and to get his ass down here"....doesn't sound like they were too fond of charity until AFTER 85...coincidently AFTER Freddie got ill?

I'm not sure what sparked this vendetta of yours against Queen, but you're making some pretty outrageous claims here. Brian and Roger have donated millions, which is surely more than you or I have donated, relative or not. But if you're going to bring relativity into it, then you might as well strip Bill Gates of his GBE. He has donated only about 2% of his wealth to charity.
you CAN'T say anything of Freddie's anonymous donations...they were anonymous...hence we don't know what they were
Sure you can. Mary Austin herself has said he donated millions. But if he made his donations public, would you be the first on the bandwagon to accuse him of having a big ego and wanting publicity for his donations?

Not fair. Queen were on tour in '84, which was planned long before Band Aid was a thought. And you're stretching it by saying they were coerced into doing Live Aid. This isn't officially documented, but consider it: They were a bit edgy at first probably because they were losing popularity in the UK, and they thought they wouldn't fit in with everyone else playing. Remember the South Africa thing? The media practically destroyed them with that one, even though it was all crap. So with that in mind, they probably agreed to do Live Aid as a "do or die" thing. Because Queen weren't doing so well in the UK at the time, their presence (or lack there of) wouldn't have made much of a difference for the viewing audience. It was only AFTER the show that Queen got all popular again.
