Music doesn't necessarily have to be strictly limited to be created for the sake of 'artistry'.

Yep. I want bubblegum pop. Sometimes. And sometimes I want classical. Or jazz. Or sometimes I want good old hard classic rock. Music is art yes. But its so much more. If I want to listen to "Grace Kelly" (or Good Old Fashioned Loverboy for that matter) while I work out or do laundry to make the time pass by, what is wrong with that? Nothing. No more than listening to a lovely classical cd while taking a nice drive on a summer night with the windows open. Music isn't just one thing to all people. There is a time and place for all types and genres. Don't try to put it all in one neat package tied up with a bow. Let it just be what it is. I guess I have the artistic depth of a cesspool too. Oh, the horror...

If you had read on after the first line (there were only two for cryin' out loud!), you'd have seen that the punchline is "If you want bubblegum-pop, fine, but don't call me pretentious for disagreeing."

Hence, I am stating that I do not appreciate being called pretentious for not appreciating music that is pure entertainment.

Just as I am certain that Dan doesn't appreciate being told he has the artistic depth of a cesspool.

Freddie's quote about disposable pop comes to mind. I doubt Thomas would say Freddie had the artistic depth of a cesspool, but I sure as hell wouldn't call "Let's Turn It On" "art."

Ya know what... the musicians themselves are apart of this "Artform". There is a reason they are also called artists. NONE of them , atleast to me are perfect not even Queen or Freddie. And every artist at some point is going to have a bad album or bad sounding album. There will always be critics ... but when most people disagree with things... they forget something very simply put "We're only human".

Back to Mika...I think 'Erase' is my favorite song off the album.

I really don't care if something is considered art or not. The question is do I like the way it sounds. Yes or no...

Besides, Mr. Bad Guy was as disposable as a roll of toilet paper, and that if one is capable of going through the whole thing.

Only the re-worked material on 'The Freddie Mercury' album compilation and the re-arranged tracks on 'Made In Heaven' save those songs from being an absolute disaster.

if everyone liked everything an 'artist' released the music scene would be very dull,variety is the spice of life after all..

I don't care if you disagree or not, that's not even the issue. It's the way you go about it. If it's not something you like, you always go out of your way to trash it. You can't just say 'Not for me' or something. No, you always have to try to be witty and and always come off as an arrogant, pretentious jerk. Take the very comment I'm quoting (granted it was somewhat provoked). Filled with hate.

And as far as the whole 'entertainment' thing goes, that's all music is. And in turn, no matter how good or bad it is, ALL music art. Most musicians just want people to hear their music, They want to entertain them. There's plenty of music I despise, and when I was your age, I would have trashed it. But I grew up, and I think it's time you did the same.

As for my having 'the artistic depth of a cesspool'... I won't disagree with you on that, but that comment sounds pretty pretentious to me. At least I can say I'm not too chicken-shit to let anyone and everyone hear what I do if they care to. Not every musician can be Syd Barrett or Beethoven, but every one of them is an artist. Whether you like it or not.
