I reckon the Doro guys were horrible editors and mediocre conceptualists. Consider that most of the best parts of the Slightly Mad video was stuff that came from Freddie's input. Dave Mallett has it all over them, their arses, and their balls, and if ever their videos turned out well, it was because someone came to them with a great idea (Breakthru) or the subject matter alone was enough to carry it (Days of our Lives, as if I even need to explain that).
They were just very lucky to be in the right place at the right time with some cameras.[/QUOTE]

What I find odd is how Queen continued to use them over and over again.

I don't know how Freddie (who was more of an artist than a rocker) could have seen their earlier work and thought that it was good enough to use them again.

Maybe the band was really, really hands off on videos / vhs compilations and whatnot and didn't know / care how they were being represented?

I'd buy that theory. They didn't seem to care that whoever it was who filmed the Days of Our Lives doco was clearly one of these excitable young people who's never seen a DSLR before and absolutely loves going overboard with the depth of field - to the point that one of Brian's eyes is in focus, and the rest of his face is a gradually disappearing blur.

Honestly. When I do fork over the money for a decent camera, I'll probably spend at six months making sure I know how to avoid making everything look 'trendy' (ie. spastic, constant defocusing and all the steadiness of a Michael J Fox home movie).

Well said. I've changed videocameras 5 times and have an analogue SLR as well as a digital point and shoot photocamera. Took me moths to figure out what works and what doesn't. Same goes for editting and archiving the files.

Well let's examine.

One vision was a straight up studio performance video. Your dullest film student could come up with that concept - if the video has any strength it all, it owes it to having interesting looking subjects in the video. But that has nothing to do with DoRo. Get a team of chimps with cameras and the video probably could've turned out the same.

As for Show Must Go On and Too Much Love - are you even serious?? Compilation videos? Christ o' mighty. You wouldn't even NEED any formal experience in editing to come up with something better.

Sorry, but after seeing the same damn clips and the same predictable editing from the same boring brothers giving each other the same handjobs after all of those years ... it gets boring.

I've said it before, but apparently it's so uncomfortable to many of you that it's best ignored:
The Torpedo Twins totally, utterly, completely suck...when they are working with Queen.
When they worked with David Bowie, or even Falco, or Rammstein, they weren't half bad. When they worked with Queen, they were awful. The question is not if, or how much, the Torpedo Twins suck (when they are working with Queen), the question is "*why* are their productions for Queen so lousy?"

Can anybody shed some light on this quote from Wikipedia..?

"In 2003, the Munich subsidiary, DoRo Media AG, bought back from the creditors, formed the basis for a restart of DoRo, in which Queen manager Jim Beach played a notable role. In the meantime, DoRo have reopened a branch office in Vienna."

I wouldn't have expected Jim to be the slightest bit interested in helping out DoRo, but their close ties WOULD explain their continued use throughout the years.

I suspect Beach was involved to ensure any Queen material owned by Doro wasn't sold off to a 3rd party. Or they might just be friends. Or he saw a financial opportunity. Hard to say without inside knowledge.

Maybe there's a "just as long as you promise never to ask to work for us again" clause in there.

Or maybe Jim was involved because, legally speaking, Queen may not have had full rights in the first place to ALL the footage DoRo shot and owned, and they likely didn't want the DoRo archives to be looted by creditors and 3rd parties who could theoretically do whatever they damn well pleased with it.

If it is fact true that Jim had something to do with saving DoRo, there are two alternative reasons for it:

1) Jim Beach (and QP) are more than just customers of DoRo, and they have a continued business interest and/or strong sense of loyalty towards them. They feel DoRo has treated them well, and have agreed to help them out with no demands for the past material.

2) Jim Beach (and QP) are nothing more than past customers of DoRo, and saw their problems as a chance to purchase Queen material for their own future use. Since this was almost a decade ago, we can assume that future use does not include releasing the material.

The only good thing DoRo has ever done for Queen was the 'I'm Going Slightly Mad' video.

You can thank Freddie's planning for that.

I looked up their website. They are still in business with an office in Europe and the USA. Doing documentaries.
