I think if Q+PR proved anything it's that Queen's legacy can't be hurt or ruined, because it's almost considered a separate entity by most folks ... you'd be surprised by just how many people don't even know that Q+PR happened.

I don't see how trying another singer would hurt at all.
Anyone who says "so and so can't replace Freddie..." has it completely wrong. This is not what it's about. No one can replace Freddie and everyone on this board should realize this. I'm certain Brian and Roger know he can't be replaced as well, no one can be replaced. I think all Brian and Roger have in their minds (at least I hope) when they get a "stand in" vocalist to sing Queen songs is so their fans can still enjoy their music in a live setting, they can enjoy playing live as well, and also to pay tribute to Freddie. Anyone who knows anything about Freddie Mercury should be able to comprehend that his talent can't be doubled. We may never see someone of his talent again period!
I'm a Queen fan, a huge one as are most on this board. Please don't think that Brian and Roger are trying or have ever tried to replace Freddie. It's a matter of them being able to still play their music that they enjoy live and letting the fans enjoy it as well. Adam can't replace Freddie, no one can and no one ever will. That debate should never even come to surface. Can Adam entertain people by singing Queen's songs with Brian and Roger? I think yes and I would pay hard earned money to hear it!
If it happens and he does get with Brian and Roger in the future for something then I say enjoy it if you like it and if you don't then don't listen.
you can be sure as hell that I won't listen.
but it will hurt my soul to see them destroy the legacy of the best band in the world.
"Queen + tv star - playing to screaming teenage girls near you"
Good for you, don't listen then! What is the problem with singing to screaming teenage girls? Should Queen only sing to gay men? Lesbians? Geriatric patients?? When bands play music I'm sure they aren't selective on who buys tickets or CDs. They just want to play for fans and they want people who like their music to buy their product and come see them if they tour. It's not as difficult as you and some others make it out to be.
As Z said, Queen's legacy can't be touched, it can't be destroyed, it's forever written in history. Quit being miserable and enjoy what you enjoy and quit bitching about what you don't enjoy. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

If you're even considering this, you're probably not the typical Queen fan. Because of the diversity of each album, Queen built quite a following of varied fans, but one thing they all had in common was the ability to determine what good music and showmanship really was/is.
So if you're an Idol fan AND a Queen fan, you're either:
(1) Terribly confused
(2) Under 14
(3) unaware that Brian, Paul, and Roger got paid a hay-uge pile of money to appear on Idol in the first place
(4) unaware that Brian, Paul, Roger, John, Ringo, or any other serious musical act would never take an Idol winner seriously.
(5) unaware that contestants are created by the TV show. It's more act than talent. You really think these are yokos from Lancaster who got a shot to make it big? No. They're "marketable". How's Clay, Rueben, and the rest of those idiots doing lately? Think they have any money left?

Adam's been doing musical theatre for years. Perhaps he'd be a good fit in a production of WWRY. Or....perhaps Brian might lend a guitar solo or two to Adam's album. Or...who knows?
And I, for one, would love to know what Brian said to Adam on stage when the song was over...
he looks like a Galilleo doesnt he?
maybe Canada or the UK in 18 months time? Mr Cowell and Mr Fuller will milk him dry first before giving him to anyone else.

...as is Carrie Underwood.

Carrie Underwood has played 7 shows this year. 7.
Kelly Clarkson is the only one that ever amounted to a hill of beans and even then, if you like dirty southern rock, ok. But that's all she's got.
How many seasons and winners have we had?
So, like I said, where are your Idols now?
The target audience for American Idol is hard to stomach, but here goes. You know the contestants that never make the show in the first place? THAT'S who this show is for. Sorry to break the news to you idol fans. Nobody in the business has any respect for these so called "artists". The only respect given is to the people cashing in on the thing. Simon Cowell, Lil Seacrest, Dogg Jackson, and Drunk Paula will never ever have to worry about finding employment for the rest of their lives. The contestants, on the other hand? Well, look what Clay had to do to get his name in a newspaper again?

I am not an Idol fan but I did watch the finale and I did watch some videos of Adam Lambert on youtube. I do enjoy watching him perform and I like the sound of his voice. I don't think I fall in to your categories though Microwave but I would still pay to see Adam do a set with Brian and Roger. What would it hurt???

If Brian and Roger hired Adam Lambert to sing it might be okay but it doesn't mean he'd be able to write a great(or even good) song.
Carrie Underwood made US$14M last year.
Last years AI winner has made more than US$2M and the runner up more than US$1.5M
Clay Aiken is doing fine singing in Spamalot.on Broadway(probably beats a teaching income) and has had decent sales on his CD and Download sales.
As much as I don't really care for the whole Idol franchise it does open doors for the winners(all of whom are making a better living at music/entertainment than they were before Idol).
Even Taylor Hicks is doing reasonably well making a better living in music than he did before Idol.
FFS even Kellie pickle licker is doing well enough to buy new breasts.
I'm not a big fan of glorified Karaoke contests on TV and I'd rather listen to a great song done by an average singer which will never happen from an Idol winner(since the producers of Idol don't support the kind of personality which will write a great song).
Adam Lambert may or may not be a capable frontman for a rock band but I wouldn't know since I saw less than 2 minutes of AI this year. He does have a solid background in musical theater and has just upped his name recognition factor in a big way. I'd bet, for that alone, he'll benefit greatly from the Idol experience even though he didn't win.

What does it matter how many shows someone has played? Sheesh.

^ Hi Soup and everybody, Adam Lambert was interviewed this morning and he was asked directly "Has Queen offered you a job? Because they need a lead singer." And Adam responded "I think ther was some interest yeah." The reporter pursued the line of questioning with "So in other words they've made you an offer but you don't want to reveal it yet." To which Adam responded by laughing nervously and saying "I'm pleading the fifth on that." So it seems that something is up.

At least it's not Mika

I think it would be cool if Roger and Brian played on/collaborated with him for a song/songs his album. Why not?

QPR were paid to be on Idol?
Really?
I think they just appeared on it, the motivation being back catalog/quickie greatest hits pimping and tour publicity.
