I could do a better job than this Adam Lambert guy, as could most of the people here with half a voice.
Oh, and with all due respect, the idea of an American kid permanently fronting an old quintessentially English band is a bit laughable, and just plain wrong somehow. You'd never want to see an Englishman up front for a southern rock band, or singing country music - it just doesnt work.
Plus I honestly dont think Bri and Rog want some young Freddie wannabe fronting the band - he'll add nothing to the writing mix, and they'd be a karaoke backing band - at least Paul took the songs somewhere new, and made the writing for Cosmos a bit more varied.
To be honest, Queen plus any popstar is a bad idea, particularly if they've ever been within the grasp of Simon Cowell, the music anti-christ.
It starts to get a bit sad if they keep recruiting singers - QPR was a fun experiment, and had some cool moments over the last few years, but why start flogging this dying donkey now? They dont need money or recognition at this point - they've got tons of both.
Credibility is something they could do with striving for. QPR was a project which maintained that, as it wasnt selling out or replacing Freddie with an impersonator, it was, for better or worse, something different. Anything involving nabbing some popstar of the C-lebrity ilk only turns it into a circus, and makes Queen, and by extension us the laughing stock of classic bands.
Besides, as rightly pointed out above, Brian has never been keen on the idea of recruiting from reality TV. Appearing on it for a bit of fun is something else though, and as long as it was purely about that and a bit of promotion, why not!?
I think people are getting a bit carried away.

No disrespect to the musicians on the forum, but having listened to the Stage of Champions a few times, I really, really doubt that ...

This I do agree with. I can't be unequivocal about how I think it'd work because 'you never know', but I don't see it working. I wouldn't be as oafish as to tell them not to try... it's their career, right?

In my view though, it wouldn't be a good idea.

to be honest, they tried the 'lets get someone who is the total opposite of Freddie" and that didnt work out too brilliantly did it? the album went down faster than Paris Hilton in a hotel suite.
i can see them biting the bullet now and going with the "ok fans, here's the Freddie wannabe you obviously crave for" and seeing what happens.they got nothing left to lose.

guys, I was partially kidding about the adam thing, but I knew the rumors were gonna start. I Just wanted to have some fun with it. I'm not a fan of american idol, and never even heard the kid sing.

good post
since when did INTEGRITY lose its significance???
everybody associated with american karaoke is a laughing stock in the music business. you'll NEVER - and read it carefully twice - NEVER - get respected as an artist if you start out on a reality tv show
what amazes is me as that there's ALOT of people who seem ok with the notion of Brian and Roger being a vehicle for any singer. the list of suggestions since paul made his statement has been ENDLESS!!!
would people rather have them go out with anybody than to have them call it a day with their INTEGRITY still flying high?
I'm speechless actually.
I saw QPR live 4 times. it was brilliant. I tought the album was good to. they packed out arenas and in some cases stadiums. Paul wants to do other things. fair play.
please leave it at that. the show doesn't have to go on

so you would rather have a freddie soundalike?
anyone trying to sing like Freddie comes off sounding like a second rate Freddie. that's not good enough
imo, it worked with Paul cause he has his own unique way of singing

yes, wouldn't that be ironic. I would forever lose respect for roger if they hire adam. Even being on idol Queen look like hypocrites. To me they do at least. Celebrity?....

@ Beautifulsoup & the other Idol worshipers
Number of shows means a lot. That's where the real money comes from. Remember when these idiots won their contests? They shuttled them around to every major city and a bunch of small ones in between. Do you seriously think they're sitting back counting their cash from album sales? After paying the songwriters, producers, promoters, Simon, there's really not a lot left.
14MIL last year for Carrie? Well, let's look at her expenditures and then do a net income figure. I doubt it hits even the million mark. A far cry from what she was three years ago.
So Taylor Hicks is conquering the world, eh? Well ask yourself something. Where? A VFW in Vacarville? And who exactly is his band? His buddies? No, a bunch of paid musicians who have no connection to him except the paycheck. Ask Taylor Hicks if he could have his old life and band back and I bet he'd take it in a heartbeat... if he really was into the music and not the life.
Glay Aiken is singing off broadway. Remember the talk shows and the 40+ year olds that would buy and support him in everything he ever did? Well, they've moved on. You, apparantly are still a big fan.

see thats the thing,it didnt work with Paul so why not try the Freddie tribute act now?
edit:
i must point out that i dont suggest having a wannabe running around on stage in a leotard going 'day-oh' and calling everyone 'darling' but someone who sounds more like Freddie than a rasping old age 70's blues rocker..

did I miss something?...it didn't work with paul. Cosmos rocks was a failure. yea, the shows sold well in england, but anything would sell under the queen name over there. Please people, put the queen name to rest. It's over. No more Queen + crap. Queen are bigger in the states now than they been for a long long time, and that has nothing to do with queen + paul and everything to do with american idol. I don't like the show myself, but I admit it's been good to queen. I don't blame brian and roger for being a part of that, but does make them look like hypocrites writing a song like celebrity and then appearing on american idol, lol. BTW, don't think I'm a paul basher. He's a very good singer. Just not with queen.

Edited out...very weird how the whole quoting posts and editing thing works for me on this board.
So - without any quoting....All I had basically said was that I cheerfully agree to disagree on many points that were made/addressed to me. Hey, it's all good, and no big whoop. :)
Smiles, everyone; smiles!

WTF is wrong with people? adam lambert? a talentless fruity idol guy with queen? the world is fucked up!
mike hunt · Member since
I knew there would be rumors, but didn't take it seriously until now. Brian has said he's open to it. I'm surprised that this could actually happen. The kid is so young, what is he 20?...brian is 62?...but even saying that queen + lambert would be way big. Especially with the youngsters. Queen can't ruin their legacy. The songs have stood the test of time.
