Well, I thought it sort of looked like a billboard ad for some escort service.
I think Adam is mostly screwing with people and having fun, but he has been into costume/make-up since he was a small boy. His mother said she could never put away the Halloween costume box because Adam liked to mess with that stuff all year around, making himself into one character or another.
The photos with the gal in Details looked tongue-in-cheek to me - just a little over the top stylewise.

By now I have read the good, bad, and often ugly things that have been said of the album cover. Here is what Adam says about it:
Thank you to those who appreciate and understand that the album cover is deliberately campy. It’s an homage to the past. It IS ridiculous.
For those that don’t get it: oh well… Glad to have gotten your attention.
Androgyny. Rock n Roll.

To get it is to like it, and to not like it is to not get it.
What a facile world Mr. Lambert inhabits on this issue.

It's like Paul Stanley had a child with Elvis! I think it's a hilarious cover and it's brilliant, when you consider the purpose for which it was made ... to riff on shitty covers.

I just dunno how well that joke will translate - myself I think that in 30 years time it will be with TCR in lists of shitty album covers. The difference being that this seems to be deliberate.

Bravo though, it's very well done.
There's gonna be a song on his debut album by Muse called "Soaked".
U can listen to the Muse version here:

Yeah, I saw that listed yesterday. Thanks for the link. I see that someone had to pounce right on it and get the two linked on youtube. I can hear Adam singing that. It should be good.
Adam is going to be on Oprah today, though by long distance. She's doing a show about reality TV stars.

But using a joke for his first album cover ever - and for people who have never even heard of him, it could translate as something totally different....I don't know how well it will translate to them.
On the other hand, I s'pose one shouldn't judge a CD by its cover, anyway.

It is a gamble I suppose, but Adam has quite a sense of humor and has at least always said that he was determined to be himself and do things the way he wanted, which is what he did on AI, and it worked for him. So now he continues. If it doesn't work, or if he can't pull it off, then at least he will have only himself to blame. And either the recordings will be good enough to make people take notice and find out who he is so that he can continue his adventure or he will fade to obscurity. Idol gave him exposure, which was what he wanted.
It's a pretty safe bet that not too many here have read the interview in Details, which was better than the pictures, but he said he went through a depression in 2006 after a break-up and did a lot of partying and drugs and was in general a "slutbug". In 2007 he was cast in Wicked as an understudy and making enough to support himself, about $1800 a week. He didn't get to go on stage much, which was humbling, and he wasn't happy. So that summer he went to the Burning Man Festival on sort of a spiritual quest and while doing acid for the first time: I had a spiritual epiphany about the world and where I fit into it and what I am supposed to be doing. And my epiphany was, I can't be afraid anymore, I have to take life by the balls and make crap happen.

I had to laugh at the Oprah appearance because she chose to show a clip of Adam doing Born To Be Wild, which I thought was one of the things he did on Idol that didn't work well, because his voice is just not suited to it IMO. I just don't think he has enough bottom end for that one. But he was the most-requested reality show contestant for her to have on the show, and will be there in November to perform his single I guess. Today's appearance was via Skype, and was taped last week, if memory serves.

Well I just heard Adam's single from his upcoming album. It was sprung on the Ryan Seacrest show this morning. IMHO it SUCKS! All the teeny-boppers seem to love it, but it is a bunch of electronic ricky-ticky, ricky-ticky crap that doesn't even sound like he has a real voice most of the time! What a waste! [/img]
I don't have a decent link to it now, but I'm sure there will be one later.

One can only hope that it's the only big concession he makes to the well-moneyed morons out there that say what gets on the charts these days ...

It flies in the face of everything I was expecting to be sure, Z. When I have time later I will have to see what is being said elsewhere, but this is the sort of thing that would drive me away for sure, and I have to think others also. Yeah, we can hope................What's the point of having a great voice and then turning it into C3PO?!

If anyone wants to hear this, and hasn't yet, just go to:

It should be streaming.

The song is so common, SO common. I thought it was ok but of course I wasn't expecting 'ok' from Adam.
Basically because it has ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY nothing to do with he did on American Idol or The Zodiac Show, or even his performances at the Upright Cabaret. Nor it has anything to do with his pre-Idol recordings (which, btw, have pretty good songs). It has nothing to do with Adam, at all. It's like Queen and The Cosmos Rocks.
It's quite dissapointing.

Nearly everyone else seems to think it is wonderful, by their comments. Even at communitylivejournal-ohnotheydidn't where they have been roasting Adam royally there are now converts. As far as I am concerned it is just FUBAR. I expected the electronic beat stuff, but not the electronic voice. I thought, well his singing will make up for the detested electronic crap. Who'd have thought he/they would screw that up?
I will still leave my order for the album and hope this is the worst of it, but my expectations are lowered considerably.
