Hmmm.. listened to about 50 seconds of it and I figured that's basically the song - if I missed out on anything interesting let me know.
As I figure it, this sounds like dozens of other songs that are out now, or have been big in the past couple of years (I think whoever popularised that swing-without-actual-swing rhythm from "I Kissed A Girl" has a LOT to fucking answer for ...) and if he wants to make any money I guess that's a quick way to do it.

I would hope that his album has some decent tunes on it though.  He is capable, to put it lightly.
Funny, my husband had the same reaction. You didn't miss a thing!

Yeah, Adam was working with a lot of people who are a part of that scene. I was rightly concerned about it, and I know that money does figure in as well. I have adjusted to being disgusted with the song by today. Two years ago a politician I was volunteering for here (first and last time I do that!) in the primaries wrote in my copy of his book to "keep the faith", and he is now at least Vice President of the US, so I guess I will now do the same for Adam's album, holding out hope that this song is not representative of the entire thing.

Sorry about that, as it seems to bother you. You DO know how to Google something? Or is that part of your dysfunctionality? At any rate, if you wish to find out then you will. Otherwise - Ehh!

Oddly, you've pinpointed the root of my issues with the talented Mr. Lambert.  I don't think he has any idea of who he is as a performer. All the glitter and makeup and hair dye and platform boots and emoting in the known universe can't change the fact that what he excels at is theatre and power ballads, and not the harder edged rock and pop rock he aspires to. Far from being edgy and interesting to me, he's predictable and skin deep.  In my mind the North American culture in particular is really being manipulated on this one by the powers that be  - the Idol makers, the silly magazine spreads, the memes, the horrible, wasteful single.

Back in May, Joe Caraminica hit it here: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/22/arts/music/22idol.html

"Finally both contestants sparred fruitlessly with “No Boundaries,” a genuinely unpleasant spatter of treacle written by Cathy Dennis, Mitch Allan and Ms. DioGuardi. A studio recording of it is Mr. Allen’s first cash-in single, already available on iTunes.

Losing spared Mr. Lambert this particular indignity and probably did no damage to his future prospects as a recording artist. Mr. Jackson once suggested that Mr. Lambert could make a record like one by the operatic emo band My Chemical Romance, but that presumes an emotional depth that he never displayed. Performative fireworks aside, Mr. Lambert does not seem to be a deep thinker, and his best appearances this season were also his most straightforward, his exceptional voice notwithstanding. (There’s no way, and little reason, to cover up an instrument so fascinating and dexterous.)

Instead the theatrically trained Mr. Lambert was often saddled by muddled, conflicting signifiers. His reference points came in flurries: David Bowie and Freddie Mercury and Led Zeppelin, glam and goth and Broadway. His hairstyle changed by the week. His rock moves were vivid, but rarely completely convincing, the results-night performance with Kiss a notable exception. He only truly hit his stride toward the end of the season, leaving bizarre versions of “Ring of Fire” and “Play That Funky Music” and more in his wake. Those songs got him noticed, but they were too odd to sustain him.

That he shined on softer material — “Mad World,” “Feeling Good,” “One” — demonstrates a little-acknowledged truth about Mr. Lambert. Histrionics aside, he’s just an old-fashioned song-and-dance man, without the dancing. A lifetime in and around musical theater will do that to you. “Idol” wanted him to be something more, and he may well have wanted that for himself. So if he was hiding something, it wasn’t his sexual preference, it was his conservatism. If only he had let America see the real him."

GratefulFan,
I don't know that you are off base with this assessment. Adam said that he wanted more control over doing material that he likes than he got in the theater, and I'm not at all sure - is there a demarcation where theatrics end and individual artistry as a vocalist begins? I've never understood that. Doesn't one draw on his feelings to sell a song, theater, pop, rock or whatever? But in the end it IS an act. Is it necessary that a rocker, or whomever, claw his/her way up, as I am told Lady Gaga has done. I certainly don't like the results there, and for all I know she may have popped up like a mushroom somewhere from what I see and hear and I am not inclined to find out any more about her, but just to turn her off.

I am disillusioned with Adam still, after his release of FYE, though I can if I want come up with all sorts of reasons why he did this, not the least of which is for the money. But to me this song has all of the appeal of what Lady Gaga does. My feelings are that those who have a good voice use it, and those who don't bury it in this sort of gimmicky electronic crap. The idea that there are a lot of people out there who actually LIKE this sound mystifies me. It is sort of like Alvin and the Chipmunks when I was a kid - maybe new and interesting for a time but only a fad, and nobody else did it that I recall - thank goodness! Perhaps the older you get the more quality enters into what you like. I don't see quality in this kind of thing. I'm not particularly fond of Sheer Heart Attack, but when I played it yesterday it sounded pretty good to me by comparison to what Adam just released. It sounded real at least.

Adam is supposed to perform this song at the AMA's, coming up. Now just how will he do that - lip sync it? Boooooo!!

I thought the young lad had a clearer idea of what he wanted, but I can see where even if he did he has been so bombarded with things since Idol that would turn most people inside out that perhaps he has lost his way or changed his way of thinking. I don't know where he is going. This has been a relatively sudden change in his life. In that sense, I see some validity to your point of view, as he has not slowly developed himself along the way, building himself into a certain personna with his own distinct sound and direction. Instead he experimented on Idol to see what worked, and then he was plunged into a sort of instant stardom in that particular market which he wants to expand and take advantage of to get himself established.

Perhaps he will just sell out to the highest bidder, so to speak. I really don't know. I wait to see what happens and what else is on the CD when it is released.

Now, totally out of the blue, song previews of all of the songs on Adam's album are available at the Mp3 download page at Amazon UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Adam+Lambert&x=10&y=24

Some of these do sound like they have possibilities, despite the artificial music.

That album cover is so gay that Elton John called Adam Lambert and said...

YOU'RE SUCH A FAG!

I'm glad you're feeling perhaps a little more encouraged cacatua.  I know you were looking forward to this, and hopefully you still are.  Roger Taylor just reiterated again the other day that they'd like to work with him at some point.  Gives me the willies, I must admit, but I do work hard to keep an open mind.  He blew Adam's name - called him 'Adam Bolton', which made me laugh right out loud.

Haha! Poor Roger - so many names flying around that he can't keep up. Thanks for the kind words. I can only wait and see what happens.

Here is a new interview that is pretty good. Sorry - not one mention here of either Queen or Freddie. Perhaps in retaliation for Roger getting his name wrong. ;o)

After being quite disenchanted with Adam's album, and the title song single he released, For Your Entertainment, I find that it is all a matter of perspective. We just suffered through the entire American Music Awards program, as Adam's performance of FYE closed the show as it turned out. I had no idea that popular music these days was so ghastly! No wonder I don't listen to it. And the worst of all was Lady Gaga, in a performance that was just plain ugly from the costumes through to the bitter end. I suppose that someone tomorrow will say that playing a piano that you have set on fire is original, but Jerry Lee Lewis did it years ago.

I thought Adam's performance was a bit sleazy, but it was less electronic sounding when he had to sing it live, and of all of the other crap considered, it was one of the better performances. Comparing it to Queen in their prime would leave much to be desired though.

Small wonder old people croak - they just can't stand the shock of change any more, and it's time to pack up and get the hell outa here!! I feel like an old curmudgeon brandishing my cane at it!
