The same goes for Who Wants To Live Forever, we didn't want Killer Queen repeated so the most obvious choice was the instrumental Forever from the 12" single.
I think most people would agree that this was the most sensible decision and you get Forever on CD single for the first time.
many tks for the explanations, GT; I really like the way this Volume 3 has been assembled

I just don't understand why these boxed sets are being made, other than for aesthetic reasons and to make money.

Oh wait, there we go.

Still waiting for something NEW from Queen.  It's been far too many years.

I have ingored the other two boxes, still on sale at HMV for £55 each! but I am almost tempted with this one because of the B sides.

Out of interest, as the Original Poster mentioned it, can anyone tell me how much the 12 inch live photo sleeve of Hammer To Fall sells for these days?.... I want to see if I made the right choice in selling it a few years back. I paid £2.49 when it was released in 1984 and sold it for £120 around 12 years ago.

This series is a complete joke....

I was at a shop In Antwerp (a big store) and the had 17 Singles Volume boxes 1 for 19 Euro but still nobody is interested...

I think QPL should really start using their head. Absolute greatest and these boxes are ridiculous releases NOBODY is waiting for, except for a covers fetisjist.

In the past when EMI released a limited edition of a Queen record they didn't try to push it through our throats. It was a sport to discover te existance of the record and try to get a copy. Often it took me years to get hold of one. That made them special and valuable.

Nowadays 'special' releases are announced months before it's release date and offered as a pre-order. Collecting new releases isn't a sport anymore. It's too easy to get them.

The SB's offer nothing new, are made in high quantities, easy to purchase and expensive. Nobody is interested except for a small group of collectors.

And, oh yes, I will buy them. But I'm not excited about them at all.

BTW Does anybody know how many of these boxes were made and sold?

I realize there are very mixed feelings for these sets by the fans - mostly very negative.  I also understand the cries for something NEW from QPL (which I very much want as well)  as opposed to the singles which have been available for years in various forms...  but I may be one of the few that's looking forward to this set, and absolutely WILL be buying it.

I got the first 2 sets out of curiosity (i'm not a completist, but fairly obsessive as far as collecting Queen's music goes) and was very impressed with their quality, but moreso with the superb remastering.  I work in radio / audio production and i have very particular ears for sonic quality...  I've heard the 1991 CDs, original vinyls, the 2001 Japan remasters, and all the long line of re-issues and remastered Greatest Hits packages in the last decade as well.  These box sets, save for the odd track here and there, contain the best remasters I've yet heard.  Not dynamically compressed to death, not just LOUDER... the early tracks especially, sound so rich and organic - alive!  They sound like real people in a room making the music.  And this is not just overstating for effect - i was quite taken back by it.

yes, we all have the b-sides already - but if these are any of your favorite Queen tracks, i believe you'll want to hear them this way, in my humble opinion...

The poster above made a good case, but for me, I just don't feel it.  There's something special about finding something rare and vintage, there's no magic in an internet pre-order for a re-issue.  My stereo / speakers are not good enough to tell the difference on a new remaster anyway.  [/img]

My speculation for box 4:

Disc 1:
The Miracle
Stone Cold Crazy (Live)

Disc 2:
Innuendo
Bijou

Disc 3:
I'm Going Slight Mad
The Hitman

Disc 4:
Headlong (Single Version)
All God's People

Disc 5:
The Show Must Go On
These Are The Days Of Our Lives

Disc 6:
Somebody To Love (with George Michael)
Love Of My Life (Live at Rock In Rio)
*This is a lesser-known US cassette single, which had a unique sleeve AND a rare b-side. This would be ideal to include.

Disc 7:
Heaven For Everyone (Single Version)
It's A Beautiful Day (Single Version)

Disc 8:
A Winter's Tale
Rock In Rio Blues (UK Version)

Disc 9:
Too Much Love Will Kill You
You Don't Fool Me

Disc 10:
Let Me Live
My Fairy King (BBC Session #1)
Doin' Alright (BBC Session #1)
Liar (BBC Session #1)

Disc 11:
No One But You (Only The Good Die Young)
We Will Rock You (Remix Ruined by Rick Rubin)
Gimme The Prize (Instrumental Remix for The eYe)

Disc 12:
“Under Pressure (with David Bowie) (Rah Mix Radio Edit)”
“Under Pressure (with David Bowie) (Mike Spencer Mix)”
“Under Pressure (Knebworth Mix)”*

Disc 13:
C-lebrity
Fire And Water (Live In Japan)

The '90s singles present the issue of LOTS of re-used '70s & '80s tracks, so following the method of combining A-sides (had to do it twice), this is the best I could come up with. GT, if you're reading this, that US "Somebody To Love" single would be a VERY good idea to include. Trust me.

I skipped SINT because it was a 1-track single and would be lame to repeat. recreating the 7" "C-lebrity" single would give us "Fire And Water" on CD as a b-side.

rhyeking, I'm pretty sure they would give us Lost Opportunity and Mad The Swine instead of Hitman and All God's People. Either way...wouldn't buy it myself.

Remember this:

QUEEN: THE SINGLES COLLECTION, a project 35 years in the making, materialises on November 17th, in the first of four boxes of individual CD’s, facsimiles of the original vinyl singles. The tracks span more than 20 years, and are drawn from sixteen studio albums, beginning with the debut LP, Queen, in 1973, and ending in Made In Heaven in 1995.

Mmmmm .... no NOBY nor Under Presure Rah Mix, then ?
Gary, what are you going to do ? Inventing previously unreleased singles is applicable? [/img]
Are we going to have something like Don´t Try So Hard / Face It Alone and Mother Love / Let Me In (your heart again)?
