For Headlong there are at least FOUR choices (discarding the longer video cut - not really a single): the album version 4:38 (from the INNUENDO CD/CT, also in the UK and Japan CD5), the vinyl edit 4:31 (from a slightly different mix, also included in the GREATEST HITS II CD and the Dutch CD5), the radio edit 3:47 (from the US promo CD5, also on various promo CTs) and the Canadian CHR edit - no guitar 3:20 (from the Canadian promo single).
+++++++++++++++++
Here are the versions of "Headlong," all but one I actually own:
Hints Of Innuendo Version (1:08) = appears on "Hints Of Innuendo" Promo TC Album Version (4:38) = appears on "Innuendo" album (LP/TC/CD), US Promo CD, Classic Queen and Queen Rocks Radio Edit (3:49) = appears on US Promo TC/CD Single Version (4:33) = appears on QUEEN18 (7"/12"TC/CD) and "Greatest Hits II" Video Version (4:43) = appears on the "Headlong" video CHR Edit (3:20) = appears on the Warner Promo CD (Canada)* The Eye Instrumental Version (4:42) = appears on The Eye computer game
* This is the version I only recently discovered existed and have not yet heard. The "No Guitars" intrigues me, to say the least, as does the severe shortness of the track's time.

Single Version (4:33) = appears on QUEEN18 (7"/12"TC/CD) and "Greatest Hits II"
As noted above, this version is not included on the Japan or UK CD5s.
Also, there are at least three different promo cassettes similar to HINTS OF INNUENDO, each with a unique combination of edits and mixes.

For those who don't know (I'm sure there are a few of you out there), QUEEN18 is the standard catalogue number for the "Headlong" single in the UK and specifically refers to the 7" single.
QUEEN18 = 7" single TCQUEEN18 = Tape Cassette single 12QUEEN18 = 12" single CDQUEEN18 = CD single
When Queen started using there own catalogue numbers, beginning with "Radio Ga Ga," they were more or less standardized as QUEEN(#), with different letters or numbers as a prefix, infix or suffix to denote the format. Most of the UK singles were released in at least two or three different formats. The mulititude of -fixes included:
TC = Tape Cassette 12 = 12" single CD = CD single PD = Picture Disc DJ = DJ-only Promo S = Special CD single (usually part of a two-CD single set) LH = Limited Edition Promo
There are a few others, but it sort of gets complicated, especially when Queen Productions uses combinations of -fixes. However, in collecting these and researching them, you do see the patteren quickly and appreciate the standardized nature of the system, as it lets you know the size, format and type of release your looking at, which is helpful if all you have to go on is the catalogue number.
Here are the UK catalogue numbers starting with QUEEN1 "Radio Ga Ga":
QUEEN1 = Radio Ga Ga QUEEN11 = Breakthru QUEEN22 = A Winter's Tale QUEEN2 = I Want To Break Free QUEEN12 = The Invisible Man QUEEN23 = Too Much Love Will Kill You QUEEN3 = It's A Hard Life QUEEN14 = Scandal QUEEN24 = Let Me Live QUEEN4 = Hammer To Fall QUEEN15 = The Miracle QUEEN25 = You Don't Fool Me QUEEN5 = Thank God It's Christmas QUEEN16 = Innuendo QUEEN26* = No One But You QUEEN6 = One Vision QUEEN17 = I'm Going Slightly Mad QUEEN27 = No One But You QUEEN7 = A Kind Of Magic QUEEN18 = Headlong QUEEN28 = Under Pressure (Rah Mix) QUEEN8 = Friends Will Be Friends QUEEN19 = The Show Must Go On QUEEN9 = Who Wants To Live Forever QUEEN20 = Bohemian Rhapsody/These Are The Days Of Our Lives QUEEN10 = I Want It All QUEEN21 = Heaven For Everyone
* There's some confusion around this, as someone somewhere screwed up. In Holland, QUEEN26 was released, but not in the UK. When the UK got around to releasing "No One But You," they skipped QUEEN26 as a cat number and went straight to QUEEN27. So, technically, there is no official QUEEN26 in the UK catalogue. To make things more confusing, before QUEEN27 the UK had planned a 12" single of "No One But You" as 12QUEEN26, but it was never issued. Both 26 and 27 had slightly different track listing. 26 has "Princes Of The Universe" as the b-side and 27 has "Tie Your Mother Down (Single Version)." Otherwise, both use the same yellow Icarus artwork.
And yes, there was no QUEEN13.
I do hope Queen continues to use their catalogue numbers when they leave EMI and go to Universal.

Greggypoo, I downloaded this box set.
Please, spank me hard. I deserved it.

QUEEN26 was released in UK as a promo, just before they decided to cancel the commercial single, but the european issues bearing the QUEEN26 (in the cat number UK box) were already pressed, so it was logical to give a new number to the single when it was finally released in the UK. Besides, QUEEN27 is officially considered a double A-side: No-One But You/Tie Your Mother Down - so it is indeed a different release! By the way, QUEEN29 is the We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions/Bohemian Rhapsody promo sampler from THE PLATINUM COLLECTION re-issue in 2002.

There was a CDQUEENDJ26, a one-track UK radio promo CD single which was withdrawn, as well. No matter how you look at it, the same song and essentially the same single should have maintained the same cat. no. Withdrawing promos and commercial releases happens all the time, but what was an organized system got screwed up. It's not the end of the world, but it is silly.
And yes, I forgot CDQUEEN29 (do we call that a AAA side?). I did the list from memory. And yes, QUEEN27 was a AA with TYMD.
For those curious, here's a which shows some of these singles. If you read the descriptions of the three middle singles, you'll see the catalogue numbers hard at work. You'll also see just how crazy the cataloging can get: CDQUEDJX27

For that matter, it got screwed up when they decided against QUEEN13!

Actually, there was a QUEEN13. It was going to be the Two Worlds Apart track, with the following tracklist
1) Two Worlds Apart 2) My Life Has Been Saved 3) Two Worlds Apart (Extended Version)
Obviously this never got out, although someone seems to have a copy - a part of the track was available on YouTube for a while but has since been deleted. The My Life Has Been Saved track was reissued on the Scandal b-side as we all know. Around 1993/1994 Roger, Brian and John worked on Two Worlds Apart some more for possibile inclusion on Made In Heaven, but once again they decided against it :(

Pim, i didn't know about that track you mentioned Two Worlds Apart. Do you have any more info on it such as author and was it intended for the Miracle? Thanks
Pim Derks · Member since
Apparently it was originally started during the Barcelona sessions but in 1988 it was also recorded by Queen, with Freddie singing the lead vocals and Brian doing a short bridge about 3 minutes into the song. I think it didn't make the Miracle for the same reason that Too Much Love didn't - copyright/royalties. The original song was recorded as I said for the Barcelona album and featured some music/orchestration written by Mike Moran, so he probably wanted his name in the credits.

Did this song really exist ? I always though it's something like Deaky's Main In The Shadows album
rhyeking · Member since
No, Pittrek, this song, "Two Worlds Apart" does not exist. The reason for avoiding QUEEN13 was purely superstitious.
Guys, stop trying to confuse people by making up crap. It will come back to haunt us, because some idiot will assume that because it's on the Serious Discussion Forum that it must exist. He'll add a vague entry to some website like Wikipedia or his fan-site, then some other douche will say he heard part of the track at a Fan Club Con, just to sound like a know-it-all and the rest of us will spend years denying it's existence and it will distract us from the tracking of genuine songs written and recorded by Queen.
The internet is a haven for the ignorant of the world and once a rumor starts here, it's impossible to destroy. Smarten up!
Pim Derks · Member since
Just because you haven't heard it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
rhyeking · Member since
Just so ten years from now, Pim, when we're trying discredit this bullshit, I decided to mark the non-existence of this recording beginning now. I did a Google search, thoroughly of the title "Two Worlds Apart" with Queen and all the band members names and Mike Moran and Barcelona and David Richards and everyone's name even remotely associated with Queen. Guess what came up, related to Queen:
Sweet Fuck All!
Nothing!
If any record appears later on the internet, it will have been created after this incredibly stupid series postings in this thread. I can't believe we're even wasting out time on this! I'm finished with this bullshit item.
Before I go, THIS is what can happen when dumbasses start making up songs WHICH NEVER EXISTED and they find their way into folklore!
