I very much doubt that Fred would have physically fought back.
Not sure what happened to my first post, hopefully now deleted as I mess up everytime I try to quote people in this forum.
I think Freddie was more capable of fighting back than you suggested, but equally I think he was capable of thinking rationally and choosing not to. There are other reports of him fighting, punching someone in the face after they hit him with a clog...it wasn't Brian, lol

Freddie was not a fighter, despite what a few rabidly heterosexual people would try to mould him into.
Procilivity towards violence has absolutely nothing to do with sexuality.

No it hasn't but some homophobes (however latent that homophobia may be) regard homosexuality as fey and weak and may want to infer some "straight" (in their mind) qualities onto their heros.
i'll never forget watching The Teardrop Explodes supporting Queen at Leeds and Milton Keynes and the hysterically funny (if it wasn't so pathetic) sight of Queen fans, yes Queen fans shouting at the lead singer, Julian Cope (an apparently heterosexual man with a wife) "Get off you fuckin queer".
To which he replied one night "and you've come to see Freddie Mercury?".
Cue some bonehead's brains melting.

Brian will never put out a Queen box set yet he teases
Queen fans on his web site with little clips of Queen a earls court or hyde park 1976!
All he thinks about is Adam fu**in Lambert!

A very useful and enlightening bit of information there Gerry!

Would love to see Freddie pushing Sid Vicious down the stairs.

Yeah its a shame how it appears but its true.
Brian is only interested in furthering the career of reality
star Adam Lambert and Kerry Ellis.
Shame Queen fans never get enough releases to enjoy.
Jackie Gunn was asking fans over 15 years ago what would they like to see in luxury Queen box set!
She promised it would get released, but it never did.
More lies.
Us Queen fans have been very very loyal to this band
and never get what we want in dvds and cd releases.
sometimes i think whats the point!!

If the music hadn't (notice, past tense) been so perfect I probably wouldn't hang in. I wait for more of Freddie...anything that hasn't been released and being the older fan that I am...I may never get to hear it. At least I'm raising some young Queen fans to help bring the music forward. I remain continually annoyed with Brian. Roger seems far more genuine.

Hey Missreclusive,
you are right Roger probably is more sincere than stubborn Brian, because
Mr May has a reputation for been a stick in the mud, as Mack once said,
Brian makes it very hard in the studio, so the other band members rush to the studio
to put there tracks down before May arrives!
I am a 49 year old guy and been an ardent Queen fan since i was 8 years old,
and like you i think May inviting Lambert on stage was a huge huge mistake.
Queen use to have a reputation for been a serious classy rock out fit
but now with Lambert they are an absolute circus.
May has lost the plot big time.
Freddie guided Queen to international success and may has done the opposite
taking this freak lambert on board!
As i said before, May and Taylor should cherish the legacy freddie left behind
and respect the millions of fans who go them rich by releasing all the un-heard
tracks and we all know theres loads contrary to what May says, he is very good
at telling porkies folks!

Gerry, you really seem to have it in for Brian May, don't you old chap? I rather think your missing a few important points in your none to accurate characte assassination.
Let's start with Adam Lambert. I think you'll find that Roger and Brian operating as Queen do so in partnership. As such if one insisted on a singer the other didn't want, like or rate then it wouldn't happen. Adam Lambert is fronting "Queen" because all three are happy with the arangment.
Brian being a stick in the mud, as Mack once said and you of course agree. Well the stick in the mud approach worked well on the first seven Queen albums. To a lot a Queen fans their best period was the 70's
Both RT and BM have said that there are more songs than they realised left over and they are working on them with a view to producing a new album. Yes in the past they have BOTH said their isn't much left. Since then they have both explained the situation.
Freddie didn't guide the band anymore than any other member. He was one of four people, who happened to work well with the people around him. Remember that his Mr Bad Guy album, made on his own terms with his own songs didn't sell as much as Brian and Rogers first solo albums and he was dropped from his original solo deal.
So old bean before you wax lyrical about the greatness of Freddie and the one man band of self destruction that you seem to think Brian May has turned Queen into, maybe a wider look at the subject from you is what is required.
One more thing that is worthy of mention. Since you seem to think that Queen shouldn't operate with anyone other than Freddie singing, maybe you shouldn't antagonize yourself any further, just don't watch or listen to anything that doesn't include Freddie!
gerry · Member since
Hey thanks for your opinion but believe me i do not watch or listen to anything which includes Adam Lambert
and Queen.
Brian once said he nearly left Queen a few times in the 80s due to the amount of rows they had
and freddie jokingly once said he nearly hit him at one time for been so over the top and picky.
yes i am the original Queen fan and have been for 41 years and the way they have deteriated
with Lambert is so so sad. A far cry from the brilliant group they once were with Freddie.
A lot of folk i talk to agree that Queen are a big fat joke with that Lambert freak on stage with them now.
He looks like the love child of Robert Smith or boy George!
I can see where this is gonna end, either Brian or Rog is gonna peg out before any new Queen
product is complete because they have spent too long with the Lambert freak!
The jokes over guys now please have some respect for the millions of real Queen fans
and Freddie, and start work on getting more worthwhile Queen product out.

Didn't you get the memo? Queen sucked until 1982, when Brian May barely got any input on what the record would sound like. I heard that one sold like hotcakes.

Mack recently said that Mercury didn't always hang around for the final mix of his own songs. And around this time Mercury himself referred to his songs as disposable. This kind of disengagement with one's art is an absolute disgrace... a far cry from the man who oversaw Bohemian Rhapsody from beginning to end just a few years earlier.
Brian always cared. This is not something to frown upon. From 74-77 it was Mercury who was over the top and picky. But never let facts get in the way of your obvious personal vendetta against Brian May..
Mercury must have been hell to work with between 82-85, the peak of his partying years. But what happens in the band stays in the band..

Gerry,
I would argue that Queen went downhill from 1982 onwards, the band were not happy at the recording sessions of Hot Space and the direction their music was taking. That being said this band refuses to release their best material and I have more or less given up hope that we will ever see a 70s concerts on DVD. It's good that bootlegs of these concerts exist as at least people can view them. Unless Freddie has a moustache and is packing 50,000 plus stadiums QP will never release live material. QP really do not deserve their fan base.

Yeah i agree Queen did deteriate from 1982 onwards
but Hot space was not as bad as innuendo and made in heaven, for it had some catchy tunes on it.
"put out the fire" was a great tune.
i agree in that there will never be an official release
of any 70s Queen show.
good that we have bootlegs to look back on and bad news for Brian and Roger if bootlegs are spiralling out of control,
its there fault cos the fans have demanded Queens 70s concerts on dvd for years now.
