Music is not about being the best, but about being original.

Yes and no. I could produce something original after the football tonight, but it would be shit. No one would like it, and no-one would buy it.

But I still get what you're driving at, unlike the constant AL spamming from SweetCaroline. FFS, how one-dimensional is she?
Have you switched it off and then on again?

"Who is the best singer in the world right now?"

So who is it then? I've been waiting ages to hear the answer.

Joe Cocker? Stevie Wonder? Though they're not really what they used to be.
I've seen Stevie at least 8 times in the last 7 years. In terms of range; he's maintained it into his older age. Which is very very very strange.

Go watch him pull off the improv on Ribbon in The Sky.He does his vocal stuff incredibly well for an older cat. He's the only guy I can think of in the pop world except maybe Johnny Mathis who can still pull off his own catalogue.

Now as a song writer. I don't know anymore. He plays snippets of his own unreleased stuff often in concert. But he's had 3 projects on the back burner since the 2000's

A real tough question. I like tons of singers, although it is really impossible to name the 'best'. David Bowie, perhaps...? And Axl Rose.
What I would like to see is this lady from BGT do a few hard rocking Queen songs with Brian and Roger...Tie your Mother Down, Hammer to Fall..... She is just having so much fun. I love her attitude and her throaty growl...   ;)

Is where I have to stop reading. It's not because of Lambert, who has more talent than a number of the assclowns that Queen have allowed to step up to the mic since 1991. It's more to do with him as juxtaposed to the question posed in this thread title.

And I spose it's also the number of shit performers that Roger and Brian have rubber stamped in recent years that sort of rule them out of being a reliable indicator anymore.
This. Just... SO. Fucking THIS.

There is no way to objectively answer this question, as the concepts "well rounded voice" and "sing[ing] with soul" are very subjective.

^yes. Hence the people who like Streisand and Manilow.

And others who think Nicki Minaj is. Etc. .

In terms of vocal ability it would have to work out to a rock singer with operatic stretches. One who could conceivably "do anything" whisper to a growl to a long melody.

The love child of Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Pavarotti, Prince, Ronnie James Dio, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Dickinson, a young Rob Halford and Johnny Mathis.....

Err

A genetically engineered super singer.

Who can funk like James and George Clinton. ...

Even though he is already over 60 years old - the vocal shape of Glenn Hughes is simply freak of nature.... I know that his style is "loved" or "hated" - nothing between, but his voice is still like untouched pure diamond - and undestroyable!
Freddie is irreplaceable, but Q+PR were great! Q+AL are disaster. :(
